A little scope help please... Trijicon TR25 1-6x25

Well I like to have one scope for each rifle and a spare if I'm traveling. I could probably do just fine taking the .375 and leaving the rest at home but then the other rifles would get jealous!

Thanks, yes I'm keeping mindful of that. Right now I"m thinking 1 box for each the .416 and 2-3 boxes of the 300wm or STW depending on which one I settle on bringing. Other than the Buff the primary species we'll be after are the Nyalla and Sable and hopefully a big ugly warthog and if the...

A little scope help please... Trijicon TR25 1-6x25

That's pretty much my thinking too. I have a Zeiss conquest 3-9x50 on it now but have been encouraged to swap it for a 1-4 or 1-6 because the area we'll be hunting buffalo in is pretty thick and hairy in places and shots can easily be at 10yds or even closer if things don't quite go according...

Thanks guys. Being mostly a Leupold guy their VX-6 1-6x24 was very high on my list. The Night force products of course are as proven as anything in the optics world and I agree in really liking their reticles. I found this forum looking for "dangerous game scopes" to begin with and a couple...

Very helpful guys.. There's not a lot published on this particular model which is no surprise since it's so new but I can't imagine Trijicon is not going to make these as well as the rest of the line. This is a big trip for me and I want to ensure I "get it right".

It get's smaller every day. You sir have good taste in dogs. Here is the dog that kicked our breeding program into high gear and created "The WildRose German Shorthair. We've had them since 1965 but Old Man Moose was our first Rusty dog. He's the big white dog in the foreground.

If I had another couple of weeks to work on it, it wouldn't be too difficult. Much easier to get them there if they fly as checked baggage vs shipping. It would take an awful rush of a job on the testing and permits to get it done in two weeks though. I tried to bring one for Fracois but his...

Looking to scope my .375 Ruger with a good quality low power variable with something with a good field of view and which points reflexively at the bottom for quick shots and/or Buffalo as well as having enough magnification to stretch things out to 300yds with ease. I have some experience with...

    guns and rust

Exactly. If it's metal it needs some rust protection in all but the very driest of environments. Even stainless isn't completely "stainless".... . But it sure does help!

    A Texan walks into a bar.... .

Yes I have. It can be very difficult to cure and really just depends on how much drive the dog has to get game in it's mouth. It would take a lot of typing to tell you step by step what I do but I'd happily give you my number and discuss it with you for a few minutes on the phone. I type...

I'm sure I will. I spent a bit of time there many moons ago when I was in uniform. Saw just enough of the best and worse Africa had to offer to know that someday I'd want to come back. I happened to know a family from the RSA who had moved to Clovis New, Mexico when I was in high school as...

I've got a real soft spot for the breed. I have judged hundreds of them in field trials here in the US and growing up 2 of my dad's best friends and hunting partners were Britt owners. I've hunted pheasant, three species of quail, Chukar, and Hungarian Partridge behind them. Jonah was very...

Thanks for the welcome Jerome. Being a S. African you may well have seen some of them already. Francois VD Walt has three of my dogs and has been breeding them to his fine stock that he's had for many years. His stud dog "Dollar" is one of my pups. Here is his facebook page...

    A Texan walks into a bar.... .

Hello all. I have been preparing for my first ever trip to S. Africa. I'm spending a few weeks with friends and will be hunting for 20-25 days. To that end I've been looking for optics since I'm a long range hunter generally and none of what I own is appropriate for dangerous game hunting. In...
