You're already there . . do another hunt! . . . why "buy" a zebra rug when you can quite reasonably hunt your own? . . . there will be at least a few operators nearby that would love to fit you in on short notice . . . especially since it is still "low season" . . .
Though the current annual quota is very low, they can also be hunted in Ethiopia.
SCI calls the Ethiopian subspecies "Northern Gerenuk" (though they are pretty much the same animal as found in Kenya and Tanzania).
My first in Ethiopia, self-guided . .
And second . . .
Interesting animal...
Matson's Lab' in Montana (https://matsonslab.com/contact/)
has been performing professional mammal age estimates for years.
They perform analysis for many state's Wildlife Departments, AND private individuals.
Contact them for all the details . . if you really want to know the most accurate age...
I have just completed the hunt that Jaco offered at the start this thread.
I'm a bit busy at the moment and writing comes painfully slow to me, but I will post a hunt report and some photos as soon as I can. But for those "balancing on the knife edge" it was a great hunt, and great experience...
Unless they are of some "non-typical configuration" reedbuck and waterbuck horns will slip off the bone cores, which as previously stated allows for good clean-up & sterilization and no need for sealing around the horn bases when they are re-installed.
This has been the case in most (if not all) of Africa for some years now. And not only the 100 dollar notes, the older version 50, and 20 dollar notes may also be refused.
In Ethiopia the U.S. Embassy even issued an official letter to all the banks assuring them that the older version bank...
Just a few days ago I booked a flight JNB>MUB on Airlink on the Cheaptickets website, with no problem. If memory serves Cheaptickets is owned by Expedia, and you might also try booking and paying via their site.
VERY WELL said Spike T. . . . the terrorists have by their own barbaric behavior, forfeit ALL rights to sit at a bargaining table, negotiate, arbitration, or whatever you might call it . . . their own extinction by whatever means necessary should be the first priority,
The two waterbuck look exceptional, also all three hartebeest look VERY good.
The two semi-circular tusks on the ground are warthog, not hippo, and are VERY GOOD.
The five heads on the center/upper row are not impala, and I believe are lechwe, and perhaps the smaller heads kob. Which would...
As a “Law of Good Taxidermy”, the form should be customized to fit the individual skin. . . (and not the other way around). This applies even if the taxidermist is using the “correct” form by species for the skin. Since the Lord Derby & Livingstone are quite similar (not saying identical), a...
Limiting my contribution to Ethiopia . .
The "signature trophy" most associated with Ethiopia has evolved over the years . . first the lion, Back in the late fifties, sixties, and early seventies, most hunters came to Ethiopia primarily for it's legendary full and black maned lions. Mountain...
Great story! . . .
I was thinking ahead of myself and expected you to go on to write that you returned in the morning to search for the buck and found it in the fork of a tree . . . placed there by a leopard
Does anyone know the details regarding this event?
I've heard that it happened in Kenya on the Nairobi to Mombasa road . . but also heard that it happened within the Ngorongoro Crater in Tanzania?!
Congrats! . . . A GREAT TROPHY, not only a big mature boar which are hard to come by at any time, but also a rare color phase. Should be nothing less than a full mount . . and if so, please post the mounted photos when possible . .
WoW! . . . what a MAGNIFICENT RAM!!
Hoas, can you provide any further details?
Where/when/by who/ was it hunted?
Guided?
B&C score? . . .
Is it a family photo? . . or?
Whatever happened to the trophy?
Many highly respected experts have judged "The Chadwick Ram" to be THE finest trophy OF ANY...
Rod,
I had the pleasure of hunting with Jacques Strauss of Kowas Hunting Safaris in 2016.
He was the junior of two Professional Hunters on my safari and was there to assist on what became a successful hunt for a big tom leopard that had managed to survive two previous safaris that had sought...
