Really no telling what kind of a life this brass has had. Interestingly it came primed. The sticker on it indicated it was last loaded in Y2K. No telling if that was referring to a full load or the primer only how I got it.

Talked to CH4D again today --- looks like the tests yielded some results --- basically they were able to compare the measurements to the specs on the die prints and the expected neck thickness. Basically, for a .416 cal bullet, with the .447 expected neck diameter that yields a delta of .031...

Looks AI but to be sure a chamber cast and calipers are in order. And if it is 7x57AI then adding some new lettering to the barrel might be advised too. I would just take a wild guess that it was rechambered and then the barrel marking was left off. Or possible marked in an area not visible...

You say that like the ARX-100 wasn't a disaster. They introduced a battle rifle whose selling point was quick change barrels and then never released any quick change barrels. No wonder it went over like a wet pancake in the US.

I'd say a Sako 85 in 7mm but that's because I'm biased as I think about selling mine.

I believe I have an 85 in 7mm as well as 375 at the moment that are both sitting new in box for quite a while.

Negative... It is specifically marked as 416/404

Based on the brass measurements and markings it is indeed a wildcat --- basically a 404 Jeffery case necked down to take .416 bullets. Which is fine since i got dies --- except for the fact that the dies don't seem to be sizing the necks correctly as they are still at .418 after sizing /sigh/
