    Raven Rocks Huge Thank You!

Done :D I'd been looking at it the other day when it was still a smoking deal at like, 120 or so per K. Down at 100 including shipping is just screaming. I don't really go through that much 380, so that's virtually a lifetime supply for me too.

    Raven Rocks Huge Thank You!

I would love it if the 25ct boxes of brass were priced the same as the 250ct. 250ct is just soooo overkill for how many I need. I wound up having to hit up GunBroker for some brass there, but it worked out to a good price. Now...the fact that they've got 1k of primed 380 brass for $100 right...

I've not yet placed an order with them, but man they've tried to tempt me into getting stuff I don't need. Seems like I've not heard a bad word about them at all.

    New custom rifle questions

I mean, if anyone has one of those scopes and doesn't like it then I'll be happy to send a pre-paid shipping label to them so that they can get rid of it. I'd hate to, but I'll take one for the team.

    Best 30mm rings

My favorite rings would be Vortex PMR's. Spuhr makes excellent mounts as well. I'm trying a new set from KDG which is a slick sided quick release mount. I plan to mount a US Optics FDN-10x on top of a custom made Rem 700 7mm Rem using this one...

404 Jeffrey - Oh Boy, another project!

Thankfully this project is a labor of love and not one I have a deadline for. I mean, outside the whole "it's drive me crazy because I want to actually shoot it" part. But once I get the brass I betcha I'll have a much better idea of what's going to happen. I swung by my local reloading shop...

    416 Taylor Info and Advice

Well, so far, I'm about a month in and thanks to some nice AH members I got a pile of 458 Win brass that I can convert to 416 Taylor (Taylor is the same exact case with the same dimensions except that it's necked in to 416 instead of being 458) and a Sizing die from a Guns International and a...

404 Jeffrey - Oh Boy, another project!

Really no telling what kind of a life this brass has had. Interestingly it came primed. The sticker on it indicated it was last loaded in Y2K. No telling if that was referring to a full load or the primer only how I got it.

404 Jeffrey - Oh Boy, another project!

Talked to CH4D again today --- looks like the tests yielded some results --- basically they were able to compare the measurements to the specs on the die prints and the expected neck thickness. Basically, for a .416 cal bullet, with the .447 expected neck diameter that yields a delta of .031...

Comparing two 7x57's cases after firing

Looks AI but to be sure a chamber cast and calipers are in order. And if it is 7x57AI then adding some new lettering to the barrel might be advised too. I would just take a wild guess that it was rechambered and then the barrel marking was left off. Or possible marked in an area not visible...

    Best gun torque wrench?

I've got a FAT wrench and Vortex makes a nice one too --- I just haven't taken it out of it's package since I got it. Academy had a ton of the Vortex on clearance for like 10-15 bucks a few years back. Opened one and played with it, then sold that and about 7 others on ebay, but kept one in the...

One more update because I'm a sucker for punishment and don't sleep enough. First test: I took Piece Number 1 from the chart above and decided that I might as well get a little destructive in my testing. I happen to have a set of 458 Lott dies and I thought "Hey, I can just use the expander to...

A Very Nice, Affordable Shotgun - Beretta Orvis Uplander Waterfowler

I put a fair amount on Paypal and I've never had any issues. If I do a person to person payment, I definitely don't put the subject as "drugs and ammo and guns" or anything blatant. Then again, that's a small percentage of my paying for my hobby.

404 Jeffrey - Oh Boy, another project!

Got curious, so I looked up some comparable rounds...it seems like for a .416 cal, brass should be .447 neck diameter. If I am measuring all these cases at .438 then I definitely seem to be on the thinner side if I am reading into this correctly right?
  17. R

404 Jeffrey - Oh Boy, another project!

If I get to the point where I have to conclude the dies are indeed out of spec then I'm definitely going to have to fireform some brass....Looks like Hornady, and a few other shops are doing custom dies based off three fired cases with advertised turnarounds of about 10 weeks. CH4d is...
  18. R

404 Jeffrey - Oh Boy, another project!

At present I can just push it in and pull it out. The only way that really could make sense in my mind is if the die is out of spec, or if the thickness of the brass was too thin. I mean the dies are certainly a strong suspect, but I also have zero clue as to the history of the brass since it...

404 Jeffrey - Oh Boy, another project!

So the question I've been working with CH4D on is the question of the brass. Basically, I've captured the following measurements: Inner diameter, Outer Diameter, Neck Thickness 1/2 (where 1 is left and 2 is right). The idea being that T1 and T2 plus ID should add up to OD. Then, we can compare...

404 Jeffrey - Oh Boy, another project!

This one is just the barrel blank, so to swap over to it, it sounds like it's cost more than I've got in the entire rifle right now. I mean, I'd hate to have to wait to get a new set of dies made based on the current lead times, but doing that at 200-300 does seem like more of a solid financial...

404 Jeffrey - Oh Boy, another project!

For anyone that's done a re-barrel before ---- If I was to acquire the barrel how much other cost /time is involved in getting it onto a rifle? I've never undertaken that as a project.
  23. R

404 Jeffrey - Oh Boy, another project!

There's a solid chance of that. There's a Kreiger barrel blank for 450ish on GB right now that is tempting. But I dunno, I kind of as a stubborn person want this one to spew lead. It's a solid rifle, just is going to make me put a little love in it. I did get an update from CH4D today that...

Wanted Urgent - Dallas: 458 Lott Hornady DGX Ammo

I have a pile of 458 Lott, but I'm a bit up the road in Oklahoma. PM me if needed. This is the list of what I have. Pricing shown was for a local post, I estimate it'd add $20 to ship. 458 Lott - $400 for 52 rounds plus reloading dies. 29 rounds of Norma African PH, 550gr FMJ Woodleigh...

404 Jeffrey - Oh Boy, another project!

So kind of an update as I've let this thread get a little dormant. I reached out to CH4D on the dies, and sent them some pictures, then some measurements from the brass. Unless anyone has a really creative way to measure inside the dies then I've basically sent everything useful I can think of...

I'm grumpy on Beretta about that. I got one of those as soon as I could find one. Then I waited and waited and waited....and finally sold off the ones that I had. I mean, I wouldn't mind if they wanted to redeem themselves a bit, but I'm thinking this to be a trust but verify situation before...

    Beretta BRX1

You say that like the ARX-100 wasn't a disaster. They introduced a battle rifle whose selling point was quick change barrels and then never released any quick change barrels. No wonder it went over like a wet pancake in the US.

Quick update --- I now have brass, and a FL sizer. But if anyone has any of the following I'd still love to hear what you might want for them: 416 Taylor seating/crimp die (Redding would be super but I'm not picky) Lee 416 Taylor Factory Crimp Die or similar

    416 Taylor Info and Advice

Unfortunately reloading die, singular is right. Couldn't find a reasonable priced set, but I found a sizing die sold individually that I picked up. So I used that for sizing the brass and then I have a Redding 416 seater from a set of 416 Ruger dies that I used for the seating. So my current...

So last night I got the chance to go play in the garage some more after a disastrous range day. As in the disaster started when I forgot "targets" and included everything from "literally my tripod on the Chronograph fell apart" to "the Ruger No 1 (416 Rem) didn't go boom when I pulled the...

  42. R

404 Jeffrey - Oh Boy, another project!

That is entirely possible as I do have a set of those. I thought of that but then just have to be careful how to set the die to not bump other dimensions I suppose.

404 Jeffrey - Oh Boy, another project!

My actual first test was without the expander. The rws is all I have and was primed so I decided to just run two pieces without either expander in it and then measure. Judging from the notes it was used, with the rifle, so it's very odd that it's not setting. There were also two bullets...

  45. R

404 Jeffrey - Oh Boy, another project!

Based on the brass measurements and markings it is indeed a wildcat --- basically a 404 Jeffery case necked down to take .416 bullets. Which is fine since i got dies --- except for the fact that the dies don't seem to be sizing the necks correctly as they are still at .418 after sizing /sigh/
  46. R

404 Jeffrey - Oh Boy, another project!

Not sure... This is all new to me. However I will say the pendulum of fate might be swinging a bit. I loaded up the sizing die and ran two cases through and both have come out with no changes to them that I can see or measure. Case neck ID of .418 going in and coming out and I can put the...
