I am thinking of having a gemsbok prepared in a simple full mount: standing with his head up in a normal resting position. Nothing fancy. Not rearing up on the hind legs or anything like that. Just standing there, looking regal (I've attached a photo of the basic pose that I saw on the Facebook page for Splitting Image Taxidermy). To anyone who has one in this position, what are the overall dimensions of the mount (including the base)? I am trying to figure out if I actually have the necessary space. Any info on the height, length, and width would be appreciated. Thanks.

Guess depends on the size of it:)

I only have a shoulder mount. But if nobody else got something, wikipedia says: They stand about 1.2 m (4 ft) at the shoulder.[7][8] The body length can vary from 190 to 240 cm (75 to 94 in; 6.2 to 7.9 ft) and the tail measures 45 to 90 cm (18 to 35 in).
Seems there is some variation.

I have no idea how much more you plan to hunt, but if you are not done, and as space seems to be a concern I personally would save the space (and money) for more animals;)

Ham, thanks for the info (truly). I had found similar numbers online. But I was hoping that someone who actually has a full mount could give me more specific numbers. Basically I am looking for the measurements of the invisible box inside which it would stand (knowing there will be individual variation). Perhaps I need to reach out directly to taxidermists and see if they can give me an estimate based on what they have done in the past.

As to what else I plan to hunt, I already have most of the animals from my Wish List mounted and on the walls from previous hunts dating back to 2009 (17 shoulder mounts, 7 full mounts, at least a dozen skulls, from animals as big as a Cape eland and buffalo down to a bat-eared fox and springhare). So a full mount gemsbok might be the last mount (or next to the last) coming into the house. :D

Again, thanks for the info! Good hunting!!

I am just curious, are you having it mounted in Africa or the US?

I usually have the taxidermy done in South Africa. Over the years I have compared the two options and usually the total costs work out to be very similar (one has less expensive taxidermy costs while the other involves cheaper shipping). Just my experiences. So I prefer South African artists as they typically have more experience working on African species.

Full body mounts are probably the best deal when it comes to mounts in Africa vs US. I'm sure the shipping on it will be expensive. Would love to know what it comes to when it ships. But, the cost of full body in the US would cover a lot of shipping.
