    Lever Guns and Plains Game

For now the eyesight is holding out, that is part of what draws me to iorn sight. I've always had an optic on my rifle and the idea of limiting myself and forcing myself to work harder appeals to me. Saying forget the 30-30 but suggesting a 45-70 seems rather odd to me but I understand the...

To Suppress or Not to Suppress? That is the question!

Suppressors should come on rifles from the factory. I won't hunt in the US without one anymore. A 20" 6.5cm is not uncommon, it doesn't kill velocity near as much as people think, same goes for 30-06. Both of those cartridges will likely loose 25-50fps off box velocity which is based on a 24"...

    Lever Guns and Plains Game

I believe it stems from people seeing the 45-70 as a DG cartridge but I speak only from what I have read not personal experience. From what I have read many dispise it because while it does meet caliber restrictions the energy is very low for DG.

    Lever Guns and Plains Game

One of these years I will add a big bore lever gun to my collection, just haven't found the justification for it yet! A 45-90 or 50-110 would make for an excellent collection piece especially with something like a Kudu shoulder mount to complement it! Big Horn Armory also chambers a lever gun in...

    Lever Guns and Plains Game

Afternoon everyone! Wanted to pick the brains of those more experienced today. I have seen a unanimous dislike towards lever guns on DG but see very little in the way of using them on PG. Though a lever gun has never been my "go to" rifle I have used one to take a few critters in the western...

What Are Your 2026 Hunt Plans?

Got a few weekend backpack fly fishing trips planned with the boys this summer, living in Wyoming and being a Montana native has perks! After that I think I'll try for an antelope with my recurve and a muley in velvet if I get dumb lucky. From there we roll into rifle season. I've got 2...

    Pre 64 H&H Action Build

300 rum and 300 prc come to mind depending on what a guy wants to do with it. 338 rum is also an option if you want a little more mass down range. 6.5 and 7mm STW should also work with you length and bolt face. It started life as a PG rifle might as well keep it that way!

Classic plains game rifles and cartridges

I am a huge fan of the 300prc, currently working on one for a designated elk rifle. Just not what I am looking at to take to Africa. Im not worried about extended ranges over there, I want get close

Classic plains game rifles and cartridges

It is a personal favorite of mine as well, have taken many a game animals throughout the western US. Currently having my main rifle rebarreled from 7 rem mag to 7prc, 1000 plus rounds was where she called it quits

I appreciate the info on the website, I will definitely check it out! I ruled out a 300wm because it is newer than I am looking to go, pre 1960, I had forgotten the 338wm though. A 257 was also something I had debated but I like the idea of a little more thump than velocity

I like the collection, big Sako fan myself. It is currently the brand leading the charge for my dedicated PG rifle. I'm working on a custom A7 for an mule deer rifle as well, the actions are darn hard to beat!

    Youth Rifle

Some more info would be helpful, youths size, experience, recoil sensitivity, that sort of stuff helps narrow down the list. Since I don't have this I'll just throw in my 2 cents. I don't specificly have experience with youth rifles but my wife is 5'1" so size wise she's close. I've also taught...

Classic plains game rifles and cartridges

Boy I looking into that martini gunmaker you mentioned and those aren't rifles, they are ART! Definitely got me thinking about having my Africa specific rifles done up over time to personalize them! You mentioned something about Namibia minimum .284 cal, could you elaborate on that? From what...

Classic plains game rifles and cartridges

That is definitely the plan with whatever I choose. I am not looking for extended range, I can do that at home. Part of me wants to go iorn sights and round nose bullets just for step back in time.
