I normally just use aluminum rings, but agree that I prefer steel rings. Weight has never been an issue enough to sacrifice the pros of steel for the cons of aluminum rings.

My wife's uncle showed me pictures from hunting in Vietnam. He was in the South Vietnamese army and has photos of tigers and other game that he said they hunted with M14 rifles. A guess a fully automatic weapon makes up for the lack of performance with ball ammo :)
