Greetings from one bugger to another.
I go out to SD every year to hunt pheasants. We hunt with an outfitter in Artesian (near Mitchell).
We've been going many years and are quite close with the community out there. I go as much to socialize and catch up with old friends as to hunt.
Is there any chance you have pictures of the bore? How do you assess the rifling? Does it fire modern .22LR within MOS (minute of squirrel?)
I'd be interested if it's truly a shooter and not just a wall hanger.
Years ago when my kids were small I bought them a vintage Remington 870 wing master in 20 gauge. I fitted a Hogue youth stock to it and it was perfect. Now that they’re full size, I’ve replaced the original stock.
Yesterday I took them to a preserve for their first ever pheasant hunt. I let...
I love the Bavarian style. I enjoyed window shopping while in Salzburg this summer. I wasn’t sure if people actually wear those clothes but leaned that they certainly do when I attended the festival concerts. It’s a very classy scene.
I'll add to the discussion old Filson products. Back when the coats were numerically sized and made in the USA.
I'm not sure when the transition occurred, but looking at their website and catalogue, they appear to have turned into a lifestyle company catering to posers aiming to coopt "mountain...
Thank you for the detailed replies. @Sarg, your photography skills are much better than mine :).
I'll try the Leupold rings, since I've already ordered them. If I'm not happy with them, I'll spring for the Optilocks. My existing front ring/base is pretty well socked in, but for curiosity, I'll...
Yes!
I highly recommend "Longitude" by Dava Sobol.
You can see the original Harrison chronographs at the Royal Observatory in Greenwich. Last time I was there, they also had a cool interactive exhibit where you sat on a dinghy with a sextant and tried to take observations under simulated stormy...
I've truly found my people.....
I have a whole shoebox full of old HP calculators. My favorite is the 15c. I have a 41CV too. I still remember the joy of receiving my first 10c in high school and learning RPN.
It's sad what's happened to HP, a once great company. It kind of makes sense that...
This site offers excellent courses in celestial navigation and other sailing related disciplines. I also took their marine weather course. It’s a guided program with many work assignments that are evaluated by instructors who give good feedback. Students also have access to an online forum where...
Wait. Did someone say sextant?
Any sailors here? A couple of years ago, I took a celestial navigation course just for fun. It’s amazing that people invented this technology before the age of computers. It’s strangely satisfying to work out problems, plotting them on my kitchen table. On actual...
I was just wondering if there was any way to salvage the bases and install new 30mm rings. The front assembly doesn't seem to come apart, so I'm guessing no.
I already ordered the Leupold RM mount for Sako. I'll see how that works out and if I'm unhappy, I'll try the Optilock system.
I recently purchased a Sako AV that came with 1 inch rings pictured here. I’m wondering if there is a way to remove the ring from the mount on the front assembly. The rear assembly is self-explanatory. The ring is held onto the mount with a screw.
If this is possible, does anyone know if 30 mm...
