Another thread on this forum sometime back discussed the value or lack of value in the client understanding the trophy quality of what they were pursuing and the majority seemed in the camp of trust the PH. For the sake of clarity, when I say “trophy quality” I’m strictly speaking of scoring not...
IMO, the quality of airport and airline staffing has been steadily declining. At least as far as the bigger US airlines.
When you consider the huge buggerman they are and all the crap you have to go through to take your firearm and ammo, it really is inexcusable that you should ever be separated...
Your description of the sound of a muzzleloader with slow ignition is the round doing exactly that. The primer pops but there’s a delay of the charge going off. The primer pop can move the bullet forward to meet the rifling then the main Charge ignites. This is dangerous because it can behave as...
My first was first trip was South Africa for buffalo, a tracking hunt, not spot and stalk. The outfitter hit it out of the park. I have since come to understand how fortunate I was in my pick of who to go with in South Africa. Went with the same outfitter the second trip but a new location, up...
I have Leupolds but the latest is the previous generation. Never any issues but I have also heard quite a bit of bashing on their newer stuff. I just got a Trijicon Accupoint with green dot and like it. It’s shorter than my Leupolds. Fantastic in low light.
I get the meaning of the original post. It’s a shout out to the people whose safari “planning” involves planning on how to pay for it, lol. I don’t see it as much more than that. I took it as an acknowledgment of the sacrifices some make to do it. Just like any pursuit or passion that comes with...
I have a 458wm bolt gun that I regularly could get 3 and 4 shot one hole groups off the bench and occasionally off sticks at 50 yards with open sights. Accuracy wasn’t a problem. But I did an experiment one day with our resident pet deer. She walked passed me one hot sunny day and went over by...
I get all this speculation on why A-Frames are so limited but the people buying bullets are not the types who will just jump back and forth from brand to brand on availability. As far as commercially loaded ammo goes, I won’t use it to hunt with and when I do buy a box, it’s for the brass. I...
When their office called me to inform me production on 458’s was about to begin and I asked if doubling my order would be possible. She had the owner’s son standing there with her and their exchange gave me the impression that the run was primarily based on orders already set before production...
With the difficulty in getting the heavy A-frames I did something on this present run of 458’s that I normally don’t do. I got what should last me the rest of my days. After purchasing an auction certificate at SCI, I waited 17 months for the 458 bullets. So, when they called to let me know they...
I don’t have as much meat loss with my buffalo load pushing an A-frame at 2500fps as I do with my old 7mm and 30 cal deer loads. The jacket on that bullet, for that caliber is perfect. Opens on big stuff but not so much on smaller game.
You’re one tough ole bird gritting that one out. Fabulous trophies and memories. And to think, a lot of people say hunting Africa isn’t really hunting. Great story.
