    Question about packing ammunition

If your on Delta you can put ammo in your checked bags both to and from Johannesburg. If internal flights you need it separated. I use a locked box in my checked bag just in case or using Airlink. It’s much less hassle than checking the ammo separately. Both of my last two hunts I did this with...

Learn from my mistakes - Buffalo

The 458 using solids and a 375 HH. The 458 through nose and broke his spine. I was next inline behind them. I got one shot off into the neck with a round of 404 Jeffery since I was to the side of the charge.

    Elk hunting attire

Andrew, good luck. Hunting elk during the rut is one of the most fantastic hunts out there. Lots of good advice here on clothing etc. I remember arrowing a nice bull in teeshirt and shorts but yes the afternoon thunderstorm can turn to a foot of snow overnight. One thing I always appreciated was...

Do You Still Gut Your Deer?

Last many years elk hunting, skin from the back, cut all the meat off at the appropriate places following the major muscular lines. Reach in for the loins and cut. Put in pillow cases and add to panniers. Fast and efficient. Only way to do it. On pack horses or backpacks.

Yes, the 458 broke his spine. What a blessing. My 404 Jeff hit the neck but too high to hit the spine. The other to the nose would not have stopped him.

Learn from my mistakes - Buffalo

I have been remiss with my report but I also made a poor first shot a couple weeks ago in a APNR of Kruger. Not really sure how I picked the wrong spot. He was at less than 20 yards, It was thick and they were bedded. After an hour and five minutes they got up and I was given the ok. I was on my...

Not sure if he is the same bull I saw a few years ago but I told Jacque that let’s find him. We hunted him but another nice old bull presented a close shot so I gave in. Congratulations he is a Tank!

    Buffalo Charge

I was the hunter. On the bull that charged I made a poor shot. Hit back beyond shoulder. Not sure what happened. John and Amos tracked these bulls for a mile or so they were bedded. We did a belly crawl to within 15 yards. Couldn’t get them to stand. It took 65 minutes a little nerve racking. I...
