Spending double rifle money on a bolt-action rifle

I have multiple doubles. Mostly Heyms and Capuis In multiple calibers. Just completed a 16d in the Salous TZ with a Heym 450-400 and 470. Took several Buffalo and hippo out of water! My tracker carried a Rigby in 416 Rigby. On DG except leopard I always prefer a double! Was in Uganda in...

What would yall consider a “Lifetime worth of ammunition” for a double rifle?

I usually shoot 100rds thru the DR I'm taking just before I leave. When I also take a bolt gun usually shoot 20 rounds or so before leaving. One-two trips per year. I leave for Tanzania in 4 days with 2 DR for multiple buffalo and hippo (will borrow PHs Rigby if a bolt is needed, unlikely)...

    African Calamari

I live in WY so Rocky Mountain Oysters are a main staple. Doesn't make much difference if its bull calf, pig, turkey or lamb nuts they are all good. Oysters out of water (salt or fresh water) are either frozen or around holidays "fresh" are just horrible. Clams and oysters in Alaska coastal...

    Loads for 450-400 3" NE

What a great picture! Bears do have trouble carrying a rifle "African Style", just not broad enough shoulders. Put and order in at Swift and at northforkbullets.com or reloadinginternational.com and when they are available you will have them!

ZIMBABWE: Leopard, Buffalo Hunt With MJK Safaris

Tinnie Kok is the real deal! You can't out drink or out eat him and I'm 100% positive you can't out hunt him! I very much look forward to hunting with him sometime in the future.

    African Calamari

No, it is not SQUID. Most sausage in Africa is not made with vegetable casing. This is just another way of using the animal casing material! Material is very carefully washed and often vinegar rinsed, then either battered and deep fried (my favorite) or cut into rings and cooked over the...

    African Calamari

Have any of you experienced "African Calamari" after a successful buffalo hunt?

    Loads for 450-400 3" NE

Leave in 5 days for Tanzania for a DR only Buffalo and Hippo (out of water) with way more on License of each than it's possible to take in under 3 weeks. Was hoping to take brand new 450 3 1/4" but the only brass turned into a disaster. So will take my favorite pair of Heym's (450-400 & 470)...

Making me rely on shooting TSXs in a fine DR would be the Ultimate Torture! Biting the head off a Herring.....I've done that so a trashing with one would be better. LOL

    Buffalo Charge

They can come out of nowhere like a Steam Engine at full throttle and it's the primary reason I like a DR for buffalo. It is a rare occurrence, but when it happens if all goes well you will need a roll of paper towels and some Handi wipes. If it doesn't work out well hopefully you will get a...

    Loads for 450-400 3" NE

Would recommend considering Swift A-frames or Northfork bullets rather than Barnes in a Double. I think top experts JJ or Ken will tell you Monolith bullets are hard on double rifles. I know you will see lots of posts here to the contrary but, take their advice and only use if other premium...

    Barnes TSX reviews/question

Had a long discussion with a fellow Double Rifle shooter who is using TSX 500 gr in his 470NE. He is using slow burning powder and loads exceed Barnes listed max loads, both of those issues make me nervous. I don't load any Barnes bullets especially for my Doubles and never will. If there are...

How many are addicted to Africa and need yearly fix?

A sign your addicted is when you are on Safari and you are planning you next 2 trips! You are in need of counselling when you have 3-5 trips already scheduled and you are planning while you are on Safari another trip! If you have 5 or more scheduled back to Africa someone who cares for you...
