Thanks to Mr. Capstick, I've joined this forum and booked my 1st trip to Africa

Welcome!! I’m sure you and your mom will have the time of your lives!! Hopefully you can get your wife to join you on a subsequent trip. There will be a subsequent trip. I went to Africa the first time when I was 12. I drug my poor pregnant wife and step daughters to Africa a few...

    Guatemala Fishing Recommendations

I’ve been kicking around the idea of heading down to Guatemala to catch some sailfish and other pelagics . Any of the AH crew have firsthand experience with an outfit you liked?

Tim Sundles 4 shots of 600 NE into Buff

A .375 through the vitals would have been plenty. The “use enough gun” mantra should really be replaced with “hit what you are aiming at” or “make the first shot count”. Not as sexy, but the best way to stop a charge is to not wound an animal because you put an oversized bullet through the...

Hunting Ethics Of Taking Female Animals In Africa

The idea that it is somehow unethical or immoral to shoot a female is outdated and contrary to best practices for managing healthy wildlife populations. The beautiful thing about the state if international hunting in Africa is that it has basically no impact on wildlife populations.(well it...

Tourist killed by herd of elephants at Sirheni Bushveld Camp in Kruger

If the account regarding dementia is true, it breaks my heart. Caring for someone with dentia is beyond challenging. Kruger can be a dangerous place. The concentration of animals that will smash you or eat you is unrivaled.

Need advice on scope for my first safari rifle

I’m with Philip Glass on this one. A high quality scope in the 2-10 ish power range is the best all around. The need for a true 1 power is overstated. I am not a fan of QD mounts.

SAA to Restart US Flights in 2026

When I first started going to Africa we flew SAA from Miami to Joberg. I enjoyed flying SAA back then. Living in Georgia it’s hard for me to justify anything other than Delta out of Atlanta.

High end rifles, Rigby review from TGS YouTube

So I’ve always kind of felt the same way about expensive bolt guns. I get that they are a work of art, but I can’t see the practical value in them. I do enjoy hunting with iron sights, but I don’t see many people taking these to Africa without a scope.

Looks like the CMS shirts are all the rage

My favorite part is how the PH went after a wounded buff with shooting sticks instead of a gun. Allowing the party to separate was wildly dangerous. It’s a miracle someone didn’t get shot.
