Hello from a fellow hunter from rural Minnesota. I have a total of one safari under my belt and that didn't include buffalo. The outfitter I hunted with in South Africa offered buffalo hunts and if I were ever to hunt buffalo I would not hesitate to use them. I'd be glad to help with any...

    Any gin drinkers here?

If you're ever in the upper midwest try a selection from Vikre. It makes for a nerve tonic martini.

SOUTH AFRICA: I'm back from safari #1

It was too darn hot to wear a Stormy Kromer....way too hot. I had one with. Wore it on the plane from Sioux Falls to Johannesburg. And I wear one almost every day here in MN. Put it back on as soon as we landed home in Sioux Falls. Cold and windy back here. I have a bunch of 300 WM...

    Second trip booked

My first safari was in March, 2023. I took all the animals on my list, Kudu, Gemsbok, Zebra, Nyala. Plus some extras Steenbok, Blesbok and Springbok. This next trip will be for some odds and ends that I saw last time. I don't have room for any more taxidermy, only photos of the animals...

300 WM guidance for plains game - powder and bullet size

I think the .300 WM is at its best with a 200 grain bullet. I like the Swift A Frame myself. Reliable penetration and expansion at all ranges. I don't hand load. Remington used to load it in their Safari Load. I've used it on about 20 animals from 20 to 400 yards with great results...

Hello From Florida, Minnesota, North Dakota

Hello from Minnesota. I'd suggest taking in a sports show this spring in Fargo or Sioux Falls. You could meet some Safari outfitters and speak with the owner about what you have in mind. I have found that the Safari owners in Africa are very good at listening to what you want and will do...

    Hello from Wyoming

Welcome. I was new here two years ago and this site helped me line up my first trip to Africa, a lot of good and helpful people. Some people are intimidated by a trip to Africa. I am proof that anyone can do it. I hunt just east of Sheridan most years. Great people in Wyoming.

    Greetings from Northern Michigan

Wait a minute everyone......The UP should belong to Minnesota.... Except wolves are a legally managed species.

    Greetings from Northern Michigan

Glad you're here. I'm from MN. From my username you can tell that I am fond of the hats you make up there in the UP. I own several. Please feel free to fire away on questions you have about your upcoming trip. I have a total of one (1) safari under my belt, but I learned a great...

    I love my PH

I booked my first safari through a friend of a friend who owns a safari outfit in SA. Met the owner in the US twice before I booked the hunt. Great guy, he told me upfront he wouldn't be hunting with me since he would still be in the US visiting sport shows when we went in March. He said...

    Hanging hides on the wall

Hi all. I was on my first safari in March '23. Had the time of my life. Harvested 7 animals. 6 with horns plus a zebra. I am having a floor rug made with the zebra hide. I kept the hides from 5 of the 6 others and am having them shipped along with the horn shield mount. Splitting...

Welcome. Keep us posted on your trip. I've only been to Africa once and enjoyed it very much. The only advice I have on your animal list is to keep your options open and have fun. Tell you PH what your priorities are and they will work with you. Don't rule out any opportunity that may...
