    HUNTING Turkey

Body shots work, but the first shot that I've let off at one the two times I've hunted them and the first shot my friends fire is always at the head

    HUNTING Turkey

Most people I know that hunt turkeys head shoot them with a turkey load from a shotgun at 25 or 30 yards, Jerome. Not that there's anything wrong with your diagram, it's just the most common method of taking them that I'm aware here in Iowa.

Thanks! He was one of the high points of a hunt that began as a comedy of errors betweening my guns never showing up and me taking three days to get my head on straight and start connecting with the rifle I borrowed from my outfitter.

    Whats your favorite?

If money were REALLY no object, then 28 days in the Selous, open bag, with a double rifle. If I had to pick just one animal, sable. There's just something about them that I am drawn to more than any other African game animal.

A Safari without your own rifles?

I ended up having to use a rifle provided by my outfitter and it worked out perfectly, so I would not have a problem with using one again as long as it was a caliber that I'm comfortable shooting and an action type I'm comfortable operating.

    Blue Wildebeest Bullets

I shot mine with a .270 loaded with 150 grain Barnes X Bullets. It was a frontal heart shot from 150 yards or so and it went about 50 yards before it dropped.

    Introduction

Awesome video Christophe! I love watching footage taken by outfitters that doesn't look a NatGeo production, just seems far more real to me.

    Sandgrouse and Doves

Of course, being from Iowa, I had to go out wingshooting since it was available.

    Blue wildebeest

The unexpected gem of my safaris. I now kick myself for having them flat skin it instead of having a shoulder mount.

    Springbuck

Worst shot I have ever made on a game animal and of course it had to be on the smallest big game animal I've ever taken.

    Gemsbuck

I thought that this one had gotten away after it ran 300 yards and fell into a depression in grass that was four feet tall. None of us could see where it had gone and the rest of the herd had scattered.

    Problem clients

My one and only safari came after I'd spent a year in Iraq, which is the only reason I could afford it. I went into with no expectations other than I wanted to hunt in Africa. The outfitter that I went through was kinda stunned by that. Sure, I had a wish list, but it wasn't very long, and I...

What Do You Expect from a Show Stand?

I've only been to a few shows here in the midwestern US, but the booths that held my attention more than any other were the ones manned by a person who greeted me when I walked up and asked if I had any questions about anything that I saw. Booked a fishing trip to Ontario for me and my dad that...
