Alpine Boots - What are you wearing in the mountains?

Most of us NZ mountain hunters wear Lowa, Meindl, or Crispi (many of us seem to have wide feet and they all do a wide last)

    Front bag Harness in Africa

The Bino/Rangefinder/PLB/folding knife/GPS harness combo's are extremely popular here in NZ. Great for having everything handy when in our mountains with minimal movement. However, they are worn over our rain gear, and with our crappy weather (We can measure our annual rainfall in metres)...

Which firearm do you have to most fun shooting

Either my suppressed 222 Sako Vixen, or my Marlin 1894 44 mag with 16 inch barrel. The former is so accurate with no apparent recoil, and the latter is just fun!!

Any Sako rifle fans on AH? Let's see them

    Sako 8x60 on a mauser action. Sako trigger, barrel , and stock I also have a L579 in 243, and a L461 222.

Shoot with one eye open, and one closed, or both open?

I'm left-handed, and left eye dominant. Shoot rifles right-handed close left eye when sighting. (can also shoot off left shoulder using left eye but not work a bolt). Shoot shotguns right-handed mainly due to cast of stock, I squint the left eye when sighting. Handguns I shoot either hand but...

Show your work horses and bubba rifles

Yes it is, since it spends a lot of time hunting Tahr in the New Zealand mountains i didn't see the need to change it (and it fits like a glove).

Show your work horses and bubba rifles

Mine is a vz33 rebarreled to 7x57 with side safety, suppressor and Nikon 3-9. (it's the bottom one)

Ever check out a Goodwill store? (I got lucky!)

I was dragged along by the wife to a yard sale. They had 4 sets of binoculars, and were trying to convince me to buy the bigger 12x50s etc probably made by the 'Crapsen dishwasher and optics factory'. I paid $25 for a set of 8x30s that they said were no good........ they were mint condition Carl...

    7x57m handloads

You will probably lose some velocity with the shorter barrel, depending on powder. (I haven't used the 162g in my 24 inch barreled Brno 21).

    Love the 222 Rem

A Parker Hale 222 was the second centrefire rifle I purchased (after a Parker Hale sporterised SMLE 303). I quickly upgraded to a Anschutz, then a Sako L461 which 30 years later I still have. Still shoot it regularly on goats, rabbits, and wallaby.

The 243 Winchester for Australian Game

@Bob Nelson 35Whelen They ran well, I had to change to 100gn Rem Corelokt, as there are no more 100gn Hornday Interlocks in NZ. Thanks for your help! @rdog I was originally going to re-chamber my Tikka to 250 Savage, but lack of available reamer meant I went to 25 Souper. SteveNZ

The 243 Winchester for Australian Game

RCBS makes dies for it (need to alter as much 243 brass as possible), and it fits in the Tikka M55 short action that I had - otherwise i might have ended up with a 257 Roberts.. I run Speer 87gn TNT for long range wallaby shooting, and Rem 100gn Corelokt for fallow, goats and nanny/juvenile...
