I think I can find one with correct front hole spacing. Rear hole spacing is the problem. Warne does have a set of bases with correct spacing for front and rear but it’s for a Mauser M18 which looks like a fairly new rifle design. Not sure the contours or height will work on a 98 but may give it...
I found the Warne spacing chart. Looks like those won't work. Drilling another hole in the rifle to match 0.5" spacing will leave only .01" between the old hole and the new one. This will be an interesting problem to solve.
Random question, but I'm hoping someone may have an answer.
I have a German Mauser 98k chambered in .257 Roberts. Looks like it was customized a long time ago. It came with a complex and interesting Stith scope mount (I think a model M3M) that I wish I could use, but it lacks the rings/parts...
When you say Czech 98, would that be a Vz24? I have two in the safe. And those pics makes me want to spend a lot of money I don't have turning one of them into a 257 Roberts AI.
I know the collector value is gone. That's the main reason I picked this one up. But the collector in me has a hard time letting go of collector anxieties. Just spit balling reasonable alternatives to the problem that would save time/expense. But I've learned several times that short cuts are...
Part of the reason I'd like to swap the bolt is an FN bolt would already have a safety that works with an optic mounted. I don't really want to rechamber it although an 8mm-06 is on my list.
I have an 8mm German K98 that was previously converted to a hunting rifle long before I was born. It sports a Lyman peep sight. I plan to get it tapped for an optic and realized that a bent bolt doesn't mean it will clear a scope.
All the metal parts are matching and I honestly hate to modify...
Just picked up a nice sporterized German Mauser in 8mm. Wanted to give 8x57 a try this deer season.
Anyone have any bullet preferences and/or load data to share?
I realized the government was full of idiots when I went to Disneyland and there were signs posted at the entrance warning me that Disneyland contains chemicals that cause cancer.
I guess we need to put child proof locks on coin purses. My mom used to find change in my little sister's diaper all the time. She didn't seem to have trouble passing a nickel.
Not minimizing children choking. But a toddler's choices for small objects to swallow is pretty much limitless. A...
Agreed on the galling potential. I'll either bed or if I can locate a brass shim thin enough, may swap it out. Either way, I want to see if it actually shoots before I go any further. :)
It came with a set of Leupold bases with the windage adjustable rear and the twist-in front base. Not sure...
