Along the same conversation I have this 450 ackley mag. With no markings on the barrel should I have it engraved? The receiver is a 1917 eddystone but I would think the barrel will have to be marked or the SA customs will not accept it. Thoughts?

458 Ackley mystery solved. After the casting and several wrong measurements and several right measurements, I think without 100% this new rifle is a 450 Ackley magnum there’s only a slight shoulder on the casting. The auction house sold it as a 458 Ackley improved, which I don’t believe exist…...

Thanks Rifle, Here are a few measurements if you don’t mind looking? The magazine block is 3 3/4 inches I’m calling that the receiver is 3 1/2 inches The 06 and a 300 win mag sitting on the bolt both show room left over for the 450 or 458.

Riflecrank Sorry I missed your response. I just bought this rifle at a local auction. The auctioneer called the gun collector and he said his father or grandfather bought this from PO Ackley and it’s a 458 Ackley improved this past weekend. I took the stock off thinking I’d see some markings...

Strange question to be asked. I’ll be in NZ stag/fallow in April 2025 Scotland stag/fallow in Sept 2026 Canada spring blackbear 2026 And Tanzania 2027. Or TBD Three years is as far out as I usually book hunts.
