I purchased them about 5 weeks ago at an estate sale with the intent of reselling them. I was overwhelmed the gentleman had somewhere between 125 and 150 rifles. There were a lot of various military mausers. I picked what I thought were the best. 2 of the rifles I could have made better choices...
That is quite the collection to be proud of. I purchased 8 rifles I believe all were built in the 1950s and 1960s. Only one was true factory rifle was an FN Supreme in 300 Savage. Everything else was custom. 2 where mainstream rounds and 4 were wildcat in their day. I had a 375 H&H built on a...
I do know that the barrel and action were joined in Holy matrimony at the GR Douglas factory in February 1967. Beyond that I am pretty clueless who assembled the rest. I believe that the original owner was probably proficient enough to have finished it himself.
Thank you so much, I actually sold the rifle just yesterday, I have been slimming the herd. I had 8 with 2 left but I need chamber casting on both of those. On is on a Belgium Mauser action and the 2nd one is a highly customized Arisaka type 38. I'm sure the Arisaka is worth and least $450 on a...
I'm back while sorting cleaning and going through my rifles I have a new mystery. I have a factory FN Action and a GR Douglas Barrel in 7 x 61 S&H. No manufacturer for the whole of the rifle that I can find. GR Douglas barrel I get it, they've been doing what the do best since 1948. I cannot...
I'm not even close to an expert. Where the Supreme came in is that I have a rifle with a Sako trigger and FN action. I saw that Sako used to sell unbranded rifles made with Mauser actions so I went to a Sako forum. Somebody there told me that there were 300 400 and Supreme series actions the...
I greatly appreciate your input. Unfortunately my buyer is pretty adamant on the details. In my opinion they are offering fair money based on my investment. Also one of the rifles they wanted to buy I had difficulty getting them to accept that it had an FN Supreme action and not a Yugo...
I apologize for the delay on the additional photos. Here are more pictures of the action. If you need anything more specific please feel free to ask. Thank you
Here are 3 pictures of my complete unknown, I will have to get more pictures of the action tomorrow when I disassemble it again. One is factory stamps and one of the trigger. thank you once again
Yes, thank you I will start disassembling them tomorrow and get better pictures. As for the scope bases we may be screwed on those. I think the old boy used loctite on the bases. I tried to take a couple off and the screws were going to strip before they even thought about turning. I promise you...
I have 3 custom hunting rifles on Mauser actions: I am in the process of attempting to negotiate a sale of all of my rifles as a lot. Although the buyer is a major franchise they seem not to know as much as I do, so yes I am in pretty deep. I have had a stroke and have some pretty serious...
Thank you, from what I have seen is that Sako built unbranded rifles on FN commerical actions early on. My leaning is with the Zastava roots or subsidiary. From my understanding they even provided rifles to the likes of Charles Daly and pretty much anyone else who would buy them. The only...
This is Not Mabel this is the 35 Whelen. Can you possibly interpret the the stamps for me on this one. I was hoping somewhat to find a makers identification but it appears to just be an aftermarket barrel added on to the FN receiver. It has the wing safety so I am assuming it is an older...
Surgery is complete on the 35 Whelen. That was a bit of a bear, everything seemed overly tight and did not want to come out or apart. Here are the photos. No great updates or news. Was hoping for some makers identification with the engraved 35 Whelen on the barrel.
Tomorrow we are going to dissect the 35 whelen rifle on FN Mauser action, the caliber is engraved on the barrel as opposed to stamped. Hopefully we can find something from a custom builder
