Are there benefits to using a suppressor for plains game hunting

Suppressors are more common in Denmark and Sweden than the opposite. As highlighted earlier, the ability to hunt without ear protection, along with the reduced muzzle flash and recoil, makes using a suppressor quite appealing. However, I agree with Redleg in that a suppressor is ideally suited...

    Ideal/preferred cartridge on species

And the same goes for the 7x64 and 9,3x62 I guess.

    Ideal/preferred cartridge on species

My own would probably be 6,5x55 for roebuck, 7x64 for the rest up to wild boar, which I would probably pick 9,3x62 for, and then .375h&h for the rest (without having any experience with any of them other than moose). Will most likely also be the two next barrels I will add for the R8 (6,5x55 and...

    Ideal/preferred cartridge on species

Now that I have settled on my Blaser R8 setup with a 7x64 and .375h&h combo with z8i 2,3-18x56 and 1-8x24, respectively, I thought it would be interesting to make a thread of people’s ideal or preferred cartridges for different species as listed below: - roe (buck) - fallow (stag) - red deer...

Your 3 favorite hunting cartridges of all time

7x64 for everything in Europe 9,3x62 for wild boars and woodland hunting for bigger species in Europe .375h&h for fun in Europe (haven’t had the pleasure of taking it to Africa yet)

    A new plains game rifle

Ammunition availability is somewhat limited but increasing with Hornady loading an ECX and Norma has launched it’s Jaktmatch in the cartridge. But most likely still a European cartridge and availability in Africa is probably scarce. I do not handload myself, but is in the process of getting a...

    A new plains game rifle

I will propose taking a look at the 8,5x55 - especially if you have a Blaser R8. Generally replicates the .338 and is becoming increasingly popular on the continent. Big downside is that you will probably not find the ammunition locally if it is lost in transit.

    Any Sauer 505 owners yet?

I have had the opportunity to handle one in-store and, if choosing between the two, I would prefer the Sauer 404 in its steel configuration. In my opinion, the overall quality of the S505 is not particularly impressive with a lot of plastic bits. E.g., the magazin rattles when moving the rifle...

Thank you very much, and likewise! The Idun is only available with the laminated VG7 steel not with the CoS. Is the CoS worth the wait or?

    Three European calibers for a do-it-all R8

Thank you very much for your opinion and guidance. It is valued! Also leaning towards the 7x64 Brenneke. I am very fond of 7mms - seems to be the sweet spot between ballistics, recoil and performance

    Three European calibers for a do-it-all R8

It is not that I don’t like the .270win, I just have a preference for European cartridges. I believe that both 6,5 and 7x64 has equally good copper availability (e.g., Norma and Rws), while rather cheaper training ammo available for the 6,5. However, leaning a bit more towards the 7x64 for the...

    Three European calibers for a do-it-all R8

My plan is to have three barrels that will cover, if not all up to Buffalo, then most hunting situations. The smallest cartridge (6,5x55/7x64/.270win) will be used most of the time in Denmark and Europe, while the others will be used for driven hunts, hunting trips abroad, buffalo some day etc.
