What would you do to a brand new Winchester Model 70

First, mount your scope correctly. Acetone to remove all oil, then blue Loctite. Tighten everything as per specs. Run a clean patch down the barrel, then take it to a range and shoot it. I "break-in" a barrel, but, I don't know that is necessary. (I wait for the barrel to cool between...

    Classic Airplanes

I've never flown a plane, but my dad flew an Ercoupe back in the late 50's and early 60's. It's almost amazing that we had the technology back in the 1940's to develop some of the fighters planes that we used in WWII. P-51 - 440 MPH, 42,000 ft. ceiling, 1,500 HP, 6-.50 BMG's F6F Hellcat - 380...

    Popularity of 12 gauge shotguns

I live in the mountains of NE Georgia. Hardly any bugs, but we did hit a high of 92 one day this summer. But it's so full of intolerable people, that no one in their right mind would ever consider moving here.

    Popularity of 12 gauge shotguns

Many men make the mistake of buying a lightweight 20 gauge for their children or wife, and it absolutely beats them up. A, well fit, 12 gauge is the most useful shotgun in the world, without a doubt.

    Budget double rifles

The 98b wasn't offered when I bought my 88b in 2000. If it were, I would have opted for a 98b, however I do like the "cocked" indicators on the 88b. They came in handy when I "doubled it" once. I pull the forward trigger first now...

    Budget double rifles

Most "factory" rifles and shotguns are made for men 5'10" tall and weighing 185 lbs. Fortunately, I've fell into those dimensions most of my life. "Fit" is important for all long guns, but extremely important for DR's and shotguns.

High end bolt vs low end double

I love DR's, but IMO, a "cheap" one is not worth owning. Good DR's are expensive by the very nature of how they are crafted and regulated. Before I got my Heym, I looked at, and handled several less expensive options (converted SxS shotguns, hammer .45/70's, some rifles without good wood to...

    Popularity of 12 gauge shotguns

That's great! If you can afford it, TSK makes the best adjustable stock IMO. There are a few more affordable stocks out there, and some are pretty good, but I don't remember the names. Sorry. Some of my schools have short LOP shotguns that are loaned or sold to younger shooter's parents...

    6.5 PRC for plains game?

I don't have one, but with good bullets, it should be fine. IME, most PH's are fantastic guides and hunters, but are a bit "old school" when it comes to cartridges. With that being said, go with what your PH recommends. Back in 2007, I asked at least 6 PH's (around the campfire at night)...

    home libraries, please show

Mostly hunting & fishing. Sorry, but things are really messy right now. And my current read... If I would quit watching stupid YouTube videos, I could probably add back 10 IQ points!

    Popularity of 12 gauge shotguns

I work with over a thousand middle and high school clay target shooters each year. Nearly all of them (boys & girls) shoot a 12 gauge. It's all about gun fit.

Kevin P is the local expert on this cartridge... I use a .470 NE in a DR and a .416 Rigby in a BA.
