    Making maple syrup

There's a company in Alaska that taps birch and makes syrup. A friend who's from Maine and tapped maples for making enough for the family thought he might try birch up here. Well, right up until he asked the folks at that company what the ratio of birch sap to syrup was. They told him 100:1...

    Reproduction tusks

There was a set of repros in a gun shop here in Anchorage for years that looked pretty dern good.

DIY warthog tusks bottle opener - how would you do it?

And like knives your options for a spacer are impressive. Wood is easy and accessible, but if you want to get creative check out a knife maker supply. Plenty online such as Jantz.

DIY warthog tusks bottle opener - how would you do it?

Actually, look into knife making videos. It's going to be very similar to making a hidden tang knife. Just need a spacer of some kind that the bottle opener is fit into and then glue both into the tusk with a good epoxy. Once dry, shape the spacer to the tusk.

Thoughts on Cape Buffalo under 40"

I do not regret my Euro or skull mount you see above. If I went back and took another I would do that again.

Thoughts on Cape Buffalo under 40"

40" is just a rule of thumb for a big one that would go into the record books. Like a 55" kudu or 60" Alaska moose. Now whether that is the end all beat all reason for taking an animal is up to you. MY requirement was an mature bull with good hard bosses and I got what I was hoping for. It's...

Boyd’s Stock for M70, go or no go?

I can't seem to find the video with the owner using a walnut stocked rifle. I will say the wood I see here is actually decent and a serious improvement over my experience with Boyd's walnut selection. I attempted to do exactly what you are thinking with my Ruger African in 375 Ruger, 10 or so...

    Best multitool?

For me it's the early Leatherman Wave from back in the late 90's early 2000's. It had everything I needed.. I had one a few years, lost it, got a newer model that had extra bits I had to some how carry around too. I lost the bits and gave up on that one. I have found a couple Waves at pawn shops...

Boyd’s Stock for M70, go or no go?

I have a laminate Boyd's for my Savage. Worked out great. Really liked the laser cut fish scale inlays instead of checkering. I did bed it myself and it shoots very well. But Walnut is a whole different deal. The pessimist in me says he's going to have the nicest blank they got for his video. So...

Just brain storming....450/400 for AK Brown Bear

To me the cartridge would do the job within reasonable distance for it. Assuming you are going with a guide who can back you up with a second shot that part is covered as well. Definitely talk to your guide and find out typical shot distances and his thoughts on you bringing it. Is the rifle...

What knife are you carrying everyday right now?

While I have a small pile of knives, day in and day out these two get used more than any others. Both are Buck 112 in the Slim or Lite model handles. The top one is for work and has been opening cardboard boxes and such for over 7 years on a daily basis. The thumb stud broke after maybe a year...

Knife carry - back of belt?

I find any sheath knife on my belt uncomfortable in a vehicle, never mind the possibility of damaging upholstery. I do exactly what you already do.

Cost of a new wood stock

It all depends what you want Have you looked at Boyd's stocks? I don't know which M98 you have but they appear to be able to take care of most for under a grand with decent walnut. You will have to do the bedding yourself. I've done it, it isn't too tough.

    Caliber and plains game

You are good, do not complicate things. The 308 will take care of it all. I used a 30-06 with 168 grain TTSX for plains game in Namibia for two trips with no issues. Smallest was a springbok and largest animals were kudu, zebra, and gemsbok. All dropped in seconds if not on the spot.

What to hunt? Warthog or Springbok?

What's the area known for? Big warthog or big springbok? Me, I'd go with that first. If they are known for both, then I'd go for warthog.
