Boole Poole Period 2 - long post with a lot of Pics

Yes, that was a surprise. I have some 232gn Woodleighs that look like a Vulcan clone, but the Woodlighs are bonded so I expect they would have been less destructive. Probably be the first and last time the Vulcans get used on a living target. I knew going in that the 9.3 was a lot more gun...

Boole Poole Period 2 - long post with a lot of Pics

Just got back from a week on Boole Poole for the hog deer ballot hunt. This is my experience. Monday morning I was awake at 4:20am and on the way to Bairnsdale by 5:00. I drove straight through and made it to the briefing with just a couple of minutes to spare before the 8:30 start time...

    338/378 Weatherby Eld X Opinion/Experience

The EDL-X is definitely going to come apart more than a Barnes X, but for "whitetails, coyotes and the groundhogs" I dont see how you would need any more bullet? Maybe an issue with meat damage on the white tail? I have only had limited experience with ELD-X bullets, but they are accurate and...

What is the farthest you have regulated a double rifle?

I am sure the conversation is a lot more nuanced, but at least at a high level, this is what Rigby has to say on regulation of doubles: https://www.johnrigbyandco.com/regulating-a-double-rifle/

PPU 9.3X62 285gr jsp factory load

PPU ammo is quite popular in Australia and I know a few guys that use the 9.3x62 factory loads for sambar hunting and are very happy with it. Personally I have only used the 9.3x62 brass for handloads using Woodeligh bullets. The brass has been fine. PPU ammo hasnt been exporting any ammo or...

What is the farthest you have regulated a double rifle?

To me, the question would be if the barrels are in fact regulated to converge at say 200, what are they doing at 50 to 75 yards? Its not like the barrels are going to converge at all distances.

Has anyone left a rifle “in country” for use on future trips?

Yes, dont know how that happened - I will delete since its irrelevant

Any Sako rifle fans on AH? Let's see them

The AVs are great rifles. I have never felt the need to bed one. They have always shot quite accurately for me. I have mainly used the Sako Optilock mounts/rings. I have the bases and rings on my 375, but mostly use the Optilock "Ringmounts" because they are one piece.

Tough decisions on shuffling my gun collection

I own, or have owned, rifles in 9.3x62, 9.3x66, 9.3x64 and 9.3x74. The 9.3x66 case is only very marginally longer than the 9.3x62, with very little increase in case capacity. The 9.3x62 and 9.3x66 are ballistically about identical. Any claims the 9.3x66 is an equal of the 375 H&H is just...

Any Sako rifle fans on AH? Let's see them

I have owned 5 Sakos over the years, though only own 2 now. In my opinion, the AV was the last of the good Sako rifles. I have only owned one model 85 and have been very disappointed with it - accuracy has been poor and feeding very unreliable. Whereas all the pre model 75 Sakos I have owned...

.338 Remington Ultra Mag hunting Africa

I guess its personal choice, but the lightest bullet I shoot in my 338 Edge is a 250gn. No complaints with terminal damage for anything I want to use it on.

Where to get meat pies in the USA?

Fly fishing for trout is considered the best in Aus by many. Fantastic saltwater fishing there too.

.338 Remington Ultra Mag hunting Africa

I hunted southern Namibia with a hot 300 magnum and it worked very well for me. The topography there is limited cover and rolling sand hills, which means that many shots are taken at ranges longer than you typically get in other parts of africa. I had a couple of shots at 100 meters, but the...
