    What are you reading?

It's been a minute or six since I read "Atlas".

    What are you reading?

The 2 books in front are my latest thrift store finds. The Weatherby book on the left side was a gift from a friend who is a business associate of Weatherby. Still have more Africa books to read, just hope for enough time to do so.

    Overnight Johannesburg Recommendation

I've only been through JNB twice overnight. First was 2023 and on to Maun in morning flight. Second was last September, flight arrived late from ATL with early flight to Port Elizabeth. Both stays at City Lodge were great, room was clean, got 6 hours sleep, up at 4AM, buffet for $11 USD. I...

Do any of you invest in gold and silver, and if so, how?

When my wife and I got married in June, 1985 we went to Lake Tahoe for our honeymoon. Dollar slots used to pay out silver dollars. During our week, I had well over 1,000 come to me on several good pots...which I traded in for paper bills. 20/20 hindsight sucks.

    Top 10 First Safari Mistakes

First, I thank you for your excellent videos - there is always good info to be had. One point I did not see was about any required or recommended vaccinations. My nurse practitioner reviewed CDC recommendations and set me up with the required shots. I think you can and should also check with...

Well boys, what's your temperature like now?

Hey Mark - We're loving these 60's in Parker. Are you going to the Sportsman's Expo? I'll be tending the Bushman's Quiver booth for a couple days.

Should you EVER pay a taxidermist anything in advance?

My taxidermist is like many others, a small shop usually just himself and one other guy. He has overhead costs plus materials plus a family, so I understand a deposit. The last time I stopped by his shop he showed me several completed mounts that customers have failed to pay the balances...

    Tanning in SA or USA?

Capes for nyala and impala will go to my Colorado taxidermist for shoulders mounts. Zebra is getting done into a rug in South Africa. Two years ago, my taxidermist shipped the salted kudu cape to a tannery in Michigan. It took a few months, but turned out very nice.

Should you EVER pay a taxidermist anything in advance?

My taxidermist did a very good job. I know he had upfront expenses for tanning and form. I gave him a third down, then another third a few months later, balance on delivery. Maybe paying also depends on your trust in a good job.

    Tanning in SA or USA?

My recent hunt in SA, having Nyala and impala shoulder mounted by my local taxidermist. He did a nice job on my 2023 Botswana kudu. That hide was shipped salted, but took several months for his tannery to get the hide back. The SA taxidermist has an option of a dry tan. Is it best to have...

    Safari Animals on the Table

We had 2 excellent cooks in SA with Bushman's Quiver. Chef Gift in East Cape made great meals, bobotie and...lasagna. Nyala was good, zebra tenderloins were melt in mouth terrific. Chef Chris in Western Cape could win every cooking show competition. Every game meat was cooked perfectly...

    What are you reading?

The same friend also loaned this Godwin book. Lots of good reading accumulating in the home library. I forgot how much enjoyment I got from reading.

    What are you reading?

A good friend let me borrow this book. Was one of the most interesting about what Robert Mugabe did to Zimbabwe.
