Byron Stewart of Tracks N Trails Outfitting in Alberta, without hesitation. No better place in North America if you are looking for an a B&C lion. I’ve taken 3 with him, and the smallest went 14 13/16”.
Not sure if it was taken in Zim or in Shaun Buffee’s Botswana area in conjunction with Nel Safaris. It’s just speculation, but I’ve seen photos of the cat also on Nel Safaris’ social media and they seem to run their dog hunts strictly in Botswana.
It was surreal, and after it all sank in it was almost sad. Like a piece of me was missing. I had been obsessed and passionate about leopards and leopard hunting for about twenty years. It was like a “Now what?” feeling. Luckily it all came back and I am still as passionate and obsessed as ever!
For leopard I am 1 for 4. All hunts were done with Sean Grant in Zimbabwe. First 3 were on Shangani Ranch back when he had the hunting rights. I was an anomaly though and am only the second client who failed on a cat hunt with him in 25 years. It really was just plain bad luck as I did...
Sean Grant just recently took over the hunting rights in the Nyangambe area that Leloma previously had. Sean is already busy with anti-poaching efforts and getting a new camp set up.
If you’re going to spend the money to hunt and kill a leopard then I would highly recommend spending the money to send it to Phil Soucy’s studio. He currently has the skin of the leopard I took last year and has done 3 cougars for me. I have a hard time trusting anyone else with cats.
Yep, used to be called Debshan, but now they call it Shangani Ranch. I spent 42 days over the course of three safaris with Sean Grant chasing the giant leopards of that ranch. I had the worst leopard luck as I am the only client in 23 years that he had ever sent home without a cat (We connected...
Is that Wayne Bartlett that I spy? He has a great record on cats. We ran into him in Bulawayo after I finished up my leopard hunt with Sean Grant back in June.
We’re you by chance hunting on the Shangani Ranch border. I know Wayne usually kills a cat or two near there each year.
I was unaware that anything taken in Zim has broken the 19” mark. Largest one I had known of prior was 18 & 8/16”. Zim has produced numerous 18” cats from the Mangwe area, Shangani, BVC.
Mike Fell seems to have taken quite a few breaking the 18” mark over the past few seasons in Maswa, Tanz.
I am also hunting for leopard in Zim the end of April. I will be hunting with Sean Grant. I had wanted to try and get my import permit beforehand, but according to my broker and a recent thread on another forum, the USFWS is not planning on issuing any import permits prior to their 12 month...
