    Safe for rifle/shotguns?

there was a post recently about safes but using the search I was unable to find it. The situation is for us, Washington State is now being run by transplant primarily from California who now make up the majority voting block- with results such several taxes imposed or being imposed as well as...

Your opinion why the 7x57 Mauser flourished and the .275 H&H faded

One of the biggest factors of becoming a cartridge that is widely used is answered by the military. For example the .222 Remington is a really great cartridge. when it was developed it was curtains for several older .22 centerfires. It sold thousands. Then the 222 Rem Mag superseded it in...

    45-70 vs 458 penetration

Similar results: several years ago I tested a bunch of .30" bullets for terminal performance. These were various expanding bullets fired at 30-06 & 300 Wby velocities into water-filled gallon plastic jugs. Penetration for the cup&core bullets at 30-06 velocity ran about 4 jugs. 300 Wby made it...

    Wood stock for M98

I got a stock for a Win M52 from Richards Microfit about 15 years ago. The rifle was a target model so more wood needed to be removed from the barrel channel. It was tedious work for me but it ended up fitting quite well and seems like it was in the $100 range- but like I said, 15 years ago.

    The mighty 243 Win

Appears the bullet makers have learned a couple of lessons: 1. use enough copper in the jacket so that it doesn't rely on the lead for strength. and 2. for the monometal bullets, design the petal so that they expand uniformly, not bending/breaking differently thus steering the bullet like a rudder.

Why is it everyone who sells quality shoes/boots on this site always have feet four sizes larger than my feet?

    The mighty 243 Win

I don't know. Once Nosler figured out that they didn't need to pay any royalties to Bill, he was sent home. Nosler started making the bullets with the problems as noted above but then as per above Nosler seems to have corrected the problem somewhat. Along a similar line, expanding bullets...

    The mighty 243 Win

With regard to the Accubond- about 40 years ago following the success of Bill Steigers' BBCs Nosler along with Jack Carter wanted to get into the bonded bullet business. Bill was invited down to Bend,OR to talk with Nosler management regarding bonded bullets. Bill, being honest to a fault...

    The mighty 243 Win

(cont) So the 243s competition was the underloaded 257 Roberts, the 244 shooting 80 grain bullets or going up to more of everything with the 270. The 243 had a niche that few cartridges have and it had it for several years until the 244 was rebranded to 6mm and given a 1-10" twist, and the 257...

    The mighty 243 Win

@Badboymelvin - some clarification. I recall the introduction of the 243 Win. My uncle purchased a Model 70 in 1961. At the time the readily available cartridges in the US were .222 variants, which in Oregon were too small for big game. Larger cartridges were 250 Sav, 257 Roberts and larger...

    Boil Out Funnels F/S

They look like the "civilized" means of cleaning that is now used with BP muzzleloaders. Now we just boil soapy water in a large pan, put the nipple end of the barrel in the pan, insert a cleaning rod with snug fitting patch in the muzzle, then pump back and forth, pumping the hot soapy water...

    The mighty 243 Win

There is nothing magical about the bullet fired from a necked down .308 Winchester case that isn't also true of the same bullet fired from a necked down 7x57mm case (aka 6mm Rem) and much less magical if fired from a 240 Weatherby.
