Arriving at a point in life

I enjoyed reading everyone's responses since we're all on different but somewhat similar trajectories. @Hedge774's post nailed it for me. Everything I've shot so far in the USA could have probably been taken with one single midrange caliber like a 275 Rigby. Knowing what I know now, I could have...

What new Ruger would you like to see in a limited special run?

This was the conclusion that I came to back on page 12 when I posted "...I think it would be easier to take a left-handed 77 and simply add an ebony fore end, barrel band & iron sights & just roll my own “African” at this point". The main reason for posting the original question was to find out...

    7mm Rem Mag Rebarrel

As a left-handed shooter, my 416 choices are limited as 416 Rigby, 416 Rem Mag & 416 Ruger rifles for southpaws are rare sometimes bordering on non-existent. The 416 Taylor would be my top choice if I ever decide to add that caliber to my safe because I can always upsize a more readily-available...

    7mm Rem Mag Rebarrel

I have both & they're excellent for deer hunting. My Ruger No. 1A in 6.5x55 has put more deer in the freezer than any other rifle I own. But the OP's rifle has a .540" bolt face & both of those suggested cartridges are .470".

    7mm Rem Mag Rebarrel

You're preaching to the choir! I shoot 11 different cartridges and 10 of them were designed before I was born. Most of them by the time my 375 H&H was introduced in 1912. I'm a big long-action classic cartridge fan. (y)

    7mm Rem Mag Rebarrel

In my previous reply, I simply listed the easy conversions that were based on the same H&H parent case since my 7mm Rem Mag to 458 Win Mag upgrade was so easy. But since you're swapping the barrel, I assume you could get any long action round that uses a .540" bolt face to work. For example, I...

    7mm Rem Mag Rebarrel

When I rebarreled my 7mm Rem Mag, I made a 458 Win Mag out of it. But that would be overkill for your particular intended usage. Your rifle could be rebarreled to accept any of the following. The ones in red might be a bit big for plains game or were developed after 1960. 257 Weatherby 264 Win...

    9.3x62 Cutting Edge 200gr Raptor?

A similar question was asked here on AH a decade ago. The response is light on actual data but one piece of advice that was given by @Bob Nelson 35Whelen was using 35 Whelen AI loads as a guide due to the similar case capacity & caliber size...

What new Ruger would you like to see in a limited special run?

The reason I asked the original question was prompted by two events. First, APHA (the Alaska Professional Hunters Association) had a special Guide Gun in 416 Ruger made for their members. The extra rifles were sold out of Arctic Ammo in Wasilla, Alaska. Second, Randy's Hunting Center in Bad...

    MrCapstick comes home, the 470

Feedback: Very nicely done! Thanks for sharing. Criticism: The bolt handle & cheek weld are both on the "wrong" sides. ;)

How to do the tough hunts into your 80's

I turn 65 this month & retire on the 31st. Like a lot of people earlier in this thread, the foundation of my exercise regimen is simply walking. I make it a regular part of my daily life. Every week I have reserved material show up on the shelf at my local library. Instead of hopping in a car &...

Big Bores for Hogs, Varmints, and Critters

In Arkansas, I can't hunt squirrels with anything larger than a 22...unless there's a broader modern gun or alternative season in effect at the same time. Then I can shoot them with whatever I'm carrying for that season. So @Mark A Ouellette's head shot on the ground hog got me thinking that if...

Best Rimmed Double rifle cartridges for plains game?

303 British bullet selection isn't as prolific as more popular calibers & it is often limited to some traditional weights. But I've never had problems finding good choices for the deer hunting that I do. I like rimmed cartridges in my falling blocks which is why I own two in 303 British...

    Why yesh Moneypenny

PPK's were available in 380 ACP only for so many years, I think a lot of people assume that's what James Bond was shooting. But according to the book Dr. No, he was actually shooting the diminutive 32 ACP. If Cabela's had 32 ACP's for 34% off (They don't. I checked.), aLARPing I would go! The...

The cheek welds are on the correct side of the butt stock! Most excellent. (y) :D
