Mauser M98 vs. Dakota 76 vs Custom build

Half a year later, quite a few permit applications and a trip to Norway, the Dakota has finally arrived! The gentleman who had it for sale, had imported it to Norway himself as there are no retailers here in Scandinavia. He had planned on taking it to Africa for buffalo and plains game, but...

Mauser M98 vs. Dakota 76 vs Custom build

Thanks for all the input guys! Funny how the Dakota got thrown into the mix as a joker and by pure chance, as I had never seen or heard of them until one popped up for sale within a few hours of travel from me. Status is that I have decided on the Dakota. Seller and I have already negotiated...

    Chassis Rifle for Africa

I would 100% go like this, but not before growing a sizeable imperial mustache :ROFLMAO:

    .22 rifle

Mine is a Gen 2, I wanted it to be as close to my competition rifle as possible, hence went for the 90 degree bolt throw :) ZCO is really nice, cannot recommend them enough.

There are many good 22's out there, here is my top 3. 1. Vudoo V-22 - Custom made action with R700 footprint. They will take any R700 tigger, fit in any R700 stock or chassis and are extremely accurate. They are build to your spec, so possibilities are endless. 2. Sako Quad - Light, accurate...

Your 3 favorite hunting cartridges of all time

Mine would be; 22 Lr - Cheap, accurate and deadly if used properly. 6.5 Creedmoor - Extremely accurate and efficient, easy to reload and great bullet selection. 300 Winchester Magnum - Same as above, just bigger and longer range potential :)

Mauser M98 vs. Dakota 76 vs Custom build

Yes I have found the same information. I had never heard of or seen a Dakota rifle here in Scandinavia, but as I started looking into it, I found the history and design very interesting. There is a good article on the traveler here...

    Hello from Denmark!

Depends on the job :) For culling and foxing i'm using a Blaser R8 in 243/308 win Stalking deer will soon be done with a Merkel K5 7x65R, which is on it's way from Suhl For PRS shooting I'm running a Defiance custom build in 6.5 Creedmoor For the long(er) range stuff, I use a Accuracy...

Mauser M98 vs. Dakota 76 vs Custom build

For the $6300 they are using a modified standard action. They can also build the rifle on a new 98 magnum action, but price will be double then. That is also why I'm leaning towards the new 98 Magnum, but that Dakota is really something else in my neck of the woods, think it is growing on me :)

Mauser M98 vs. Dakota 76 vs Custom build

Yes they are really nice and the customization is pretty much endless. Only catch would be the relative small price gap between a converted surplus M98 and a heavily discounted new M98 Magnum.

The Helia was also on my short list, but ended with an Leica Magnus 1.8-12x50 :)

It is the Arabescue with slightly nicer wood than standard. Would have loved a custom with some kind of Celtic engravings, but i decided on keeping both my kidneys :) The Jagd is also very nice. What glass do you have on top?

Knowing myself I will probably end up keeping the Blaser regardless of the outcome. I find it very hard to get rid of good rifles, and the Blaser is hard to beat in so many ways :)
