I shoot right-handed and unusually use a right hand bolt. When shooting from a. blind/hide with the rifle on a tripod, I will often use a left hand bolt for faster cycling.
Some places (Mozambique as one example) are more challenging to import rifles and ammunition. It's easier to bring one rifle. My 375 has always been my choice. It's comfortable for me to shoot without a brake as I don't like brakes for hunting.
In recent years, I have hunted exclusively with my Blaser and various barrels. This includes half a dozen DG animals and lots of PG, deer, etc. No issues with the rifle; it has worked perfectly every hunt. It's very accurate and can cycle rounds quickly when necessary. I have hunted with a PH in...
I have shot more game with my R8 375 H&H than any other rifle or barrel. Nonetheless, I like having a second barrel in my case. It's usually something smaller in caliber and flatter shooting for PG. My R8 with two barrels fits in a smaller case than one conventional rifle.
One of the PHs I've hunted with in Africa uses an R8 exclusively. None of the PHs in Africa I've hunted with have expressed any concern about me using an R8 and almost all except for the very young PHs are familiar with the Blaser system. In the US, far fewer seem to be familiar with Blaser.
I...
Update on 6.5 Wby RPM barrel: Justin did fix the barrel. The bolt now seems to fully close with a round in the chamber. Still need to test fire, however.
Thanks, BeeMaa. I have barrels that Elmer made for me and all of those work well with excellent accuracy.
Palehorse Zero (PZ) has made two barrels for me that I just recently received. Both of those barrels look great in terms of fit and finish, but I have not fired them yet. Hopefully, they...
Thanks so much for your reply. My first thought was exactly the same as yours -- I thought something bad (e.g., an illness or accident) had happened. I will continue to attempt to contact them. At this point, I plan to send the barrel back to them even if I can't contact them as it is useless to...
Great minds think alike. I started a post there a few days ago, but no sign of Justin there either.
One of the replies on my BB post suggested just sending back the barrel to Sips with a note instructing them correct in a timely manner.
Sips recently made me an R8 barrel in 6.5 Wby RPM. Unfortunately, the bolt won't close completely and the firing pin won't release because the pin on the top of the R8 bolt must be fully depressed for safety reasons. The barrel doesn't work.
In the attached image, the top barrel is the 6.5...
For caliber > .308, I have extensively used my Blaser R8 .375 H&H. It's the barrel I take with one of my R8 stocks, if I am only taking one rifle. Very comfortable to shoot even though I am light/lanky (150 lbs). Although it's not a long range" rifle, I can load 250 gr to 3,000 FPS and get...
