    Injured deer

I clean/cut as much meat and tendon, etc off as I can. Next, work the brain out with a screwdriver or pressure washer (I've read that you definitely do not want to boil with the brain due to the high fat content, which will stain the skull badly). Then I boil (really more of a simmer) with a...

    Injured deer

As an update, I finished the skull this afternoon. He's still drying, but I tossed him up on the wall for a quick photo. I figured it was worth a shot to call the game warden regarding a possible replacement tag, since several people suggested this was a possibility. I left him a voice mail...

    Injured deer

Yep, it's definitely been a strange feeling all weekend knowing there's nothing going into the freezer. It wasn't even a choice after seeing him.

    Injured deer

I was able to keep them. I'm currently decreasing the skull after boiling it yesterday. Thanks for the words everybody. I'm totally fine with my decision to take him, regardless of whether or not I get my tag replaced. There's plenty of season to shoot a doe or two, and get my daughter out...

    Injured deer

I had this guy show up on a camera recently but hadn't paid too much attention to him until this photo of him on Friday morning. He obviously doesn't look healthy and certainly wouldn't survive the winter. Since I was planning to hunt yesterday morning (Saturday), I decided that if I got a...

North Texas Sandhill Crane opening weekend

Nice! This is a hunt I've been interested in for a while as well. I've done some basic internet searching for outfitters in OK or TX but haven't come across any first-person reviews. Thanks for the info!

Show me your Boyd Laminate Stock

Pepper laminate on the platinum pattern, that I recently fitted to a 1909 Argentine Mauser. As noted by others, it did take a fair amount of work to fit.

Who shoots a 6.5 creedmoore ? I just don’t get it for anything bigger than deer size game and super close shots

I agree with the above. I shot 143gr ELDX bullets with IMR4451 at about 2800 fps at with a 24" barrel, and 140gr HPBT at about 2700 fps - I never pushed this load faster since I only shoot it at the range and it shoots great.
