Trusting A Wild Animal - And Nearly Killed By Him

29+ years as a university zoologist/professor and I am still amazed that humans continually forget the cute, loveable "wild animals" they admire and give so many human qualities to will eventually demonstrate they really only possess three biological imperatives: 1. Will it eat me? 2. Can I eat...

Favourite quotes - Here's mine, Quite a long list. What's yours?

I always admired this one from the great old school safari guide and professional hunter, Bunny Allen. It rings true all over the world... "It's the camp smoke. Watching a fire. Seeing it sparkle. And the stars. You get the best out of people when they're sitting around a campfire. People...

I did it backwards. Shopped around then went and met the outfitter at a show - it sealed the deal (twice).

    New Lipseys M77 .35 Whelen

Yes. They are supposed have 1:12 twist for heavier bullets. That rifle will very likely be a sweet shooter.

    New Lipseys M77 .35 Whelen

Both great old calibers and great platforms they are on. I used the Whelen's European cousin 9.3x62 in the Ruger African earlier in July and the 6.5x55 in a Ruger African on pronghorn this past October. Both were ordered direct from Lipsey's. I have a picture posted of them somewhere on this...

9.3 X62 brass and bullet powder recommendation

Used Lapua Mega factory ammo this past summer in South Africa (285 gr bullets) using a Ruger African. Longest shot was on a lechwe - 265 yds. Great ammo and great brass to reload with.

    Hi from Scotland

Welcome, Martin. I've had the pleasure to work in Scotland several times on salmon around Campbelltown and the Mull of Kintyre. Absolutely beautiful country. Good luck in Namibia.

You've Booked Your Hunt, Now It's Time To Break In Your Boots. Tips To Help Prepare For Your Adventure

I can attest to the superior service at African Sporting Creations. I ordered a second pair of Courtney boots last spring but the sizing on the new one pair was not quite right. I sent Jim an e-mail and another pair were on their way before I'd gotten the first pair back to the post office...

Pulling front or back trigger first

I just happened to be sharing a lodge with a "celebrity" in SA who had been bow hunting and said that since he'd grown up shooting pheasants in South Dakota, he knew all about such things as double triggers. I was transiting out that afternoon but went to the range in the morning with him and...
