I do exactly the same, really like it, and it is quick. Have to be a bit careful when crossing ditches etc that it doesn't touch the ground.

How good is it claimed to be? And by whom? It is good, but it is not my favorite. And its special because we can hunt it in spring, we call it summer buck. Served also in restaurants in spring/summer.

I believe things have changed a lot in 14 years. Here, in Denmark, we do not need a permit for a silencer, and we have European weapon pass for our rifles. If we travel to or through Germany by car with a silencer without permit (and they apparently vary from state to state) we risk confiscation...

Most here don't reach 6 years. I think the thinking is: if I don't shoot it the neighbours will - many fairly smallish hunting grounds. And expensive in many places, so people want to get a bang for their bucks :)
