Who traditionally had the higher build quality -- Winchester Model 70 or CZ?

I sold the Winchester .375 H&H and kept the CZ 550 .458 Lott. The Winchester was a better rifle on paper. The CZ is the one I actually reach for when the plan involves things that might eat me. I also own a CZ 550 in 9.3x62 that has taken more deer and hogs than any other rifle I own. It's ugly...

    470 Capstick and Barnes TSX?

Dump the H4895 idea. Buy RL-15 or IMR 4320. Start at 88 grains with the 500 TSX. Work up to 92 if your gun likes it. You'll get safe, accurate, deadly loads that won't turn your Capstick into a grenade.

    New 338 Rifle

Congratulations. You got one of the most underrated lever-gun cartridges ever made, and you got it unfired. That's a hell of a find.

Are Nosler Partitions still worth the money?

No. Not at those prices. Not anymore.

Omega Seamaster James Bond watch is now 11000 Euros

You made a smart sale in 2005. $2,000 was fair then. Could you have held it and sold for $4,000 today? Sure.

Help me pick the best Conservancy in the Caprivi for Buffalo and Lechwe

If I were booking a 2027 Caprivi hunt for buffalo and lechwe as the top priorities, with eland and hippo as strong secondaries, and zebra/reedbuck/bushbuck as nice-to-haves, I’d book Kwando Concession with a reputable outfitter who has a proven track record there.

    Bubye Valley Cape buffalo experience?

Everyone I've talked to who hunted Bubye, regardless of month, said the same thing: the conservancy is incredible. The wildlife diversity is amazing (you'll see elephant, lion, rhino if you're lucky). The PHs are professional. The camp is comfortable but not fancy. And the buffalo are genuinely...

Outfitters and PH: How do you decide?

After four solid safaris with the same PH (a guy who owns his own outfit in the Limpopo area of South Africa), I built real trust. We clicked on everything: how he reads the wind and the animals, the way he handles pressure on dangerous game, even the camp vibe and how the trackers work. We've...

    Most Coveted Animal in Africa?

Man, if I had to pick just one animal to hunt in Africa, outside the usual plains game routine, and knowing I might only get one shot at a true bucket-list trip, it would hands-down be the Lord Derby's Giant Eland in the savannas of northern Cameroon.

    Deadshot Bipod??

On a recent mule deer hunt it let me take a 280-yard shot from a kneeling position over a sagebrush ridge, dead steady, no wobble even in a light wind. At the range it’s great for quick zero checks or running drills from multiple positions. The only nitpick is it’s not quite as bombproof on...

    Ethiopian Airlines With kids ?

With kids, spend the money and go Lufthansa to Johannesburg, then Airlink to Maun and on to Kasane. I know it's more expensive. I know it adds a connection. I know it's tempting to take the direct-ish routing through Addis. But after doing both, I wouldn't put a family with young kids through...

    Pelican ATX Reviews??

It's the closest thing to indestructible luggage I've ever owned, but you pay for that durability in weight and flexibility. If you're the kind of traveler who wants one bag that'll last a lifetime and you don't mind packing strategically around its rigidity, it's fantastic. If you're a "stuff...

    Ammo belt holder

If I were outfitting my dad and two sons for that trip tomorrow, I'd probably go with the Crooked Horn belts for the classic look and proven performance, or the Duluth elastic loop setup if I wanted to save a few bucks and have more flexibility. Either one will serve you well. The surplus 40mm...

    Coues deer hunt suggestions

If you want the purest experience and are willing to earn it, go to Arizona public land DIY. If you want the highest chance at a true giant and have the budget, go to Sonora with a reputable outfitter. Neither is better, they’re just different hunts.

34mm rings for Ruger M77 Hawkeye?

If you want to stay with two-piece rings and just need a better finish match Check Warne. They're readily available, well-made, and the matte finish is closer to what most modern scopes use than the Leupold rings.
