With the birds engraved on the top of the receiver, I wonder if this was not originally a multi barrel set as the choice of engraving often depicted the game that was to be pursued? Perhaps a 9.3x16 or 20ga set of cape barrels or sxs shotgun barrels. Just a thought. Neat piece!

Whatever they paid for the work, it costs them thousands of dollars more than they thought. Bet they put ketchup on pheasant and order a Macallan & Coke. Can tell where the barrel band was. Also says a lot about the smith that agreed to do the work in the first place.
