    45-70 Performance

I have extreme confidence in the 45/70 people always associate the old black powder velocities with the performance of the new stuff. I used a 1895 Guide Gun.

Who all is sitting in the woods with a rifle way to big for the critter they are after

That's how I feel in Wisconsin with a 338 win mag no one even carries ammo for it near me. It was funny watching old vs new this year during rifle season. The young guys are using AR's in 6.5 and 300 blk and the old times still stand with Remington pumps and Savage 99's.

    375 rifle which one?

So my next rifle is going to be a 375 I have been reading up on these 4 in the poll. I think I want a H&H based on I only shoot factory ammo and would have lots of choices. The Ruger seems to be nice. I am also choosing based on the price I want to spend for a rifle I will seldom use. Let me...

    Slugs for Bear

You could also shoot 3 inch buckshot with hardened shot like Winchester supreme copper jacket buckshot. I am not impressed with foster style slugs.

    Ruger .22 Hornet

I used a 22 hornet for small game hunting a few years back when we had a huge 22 rimfire ammo shortage. Ammo is fairly affordable in my opinion.

I went on several Elk hunting trips in the San Juan mountains in Colorado but was not the shooter I went for the experience. I did some prairie dog shooting. In Nevada I spent a lot...

    Back country carry gun

I carried a charter arms bulldog 44 special and most the time carried a Marlin 1894C 357 rifle. In Nevada near Lake Lahontan I had a Mountain lion get after my dog and was able to fire near it and chase it off. In California my woods gun was a Ruger SP101 in 357mag.

Hello everyone I am new to this group. I am a diehard fisherman and shooter and hunter. I have wanted to hunt Africa since I was in my early 20's and in about a year I am turning 40 and I am looking to make my first hunt in Africa happen. I look forward to reading on this forum and learning...
