    Twist rate

I have heard about that and it definitely has some merit. However I’ve not read a full and in-depth article about it so can’t say I am fully convinced yet. What I would love to see is the same solid at the same velocity fired into the same media but from different twists, in .458 1:14-1:20 would...

    Twist rate

That’s my point, 460 Wby uses a faster twist than a 45-70 despite them using bullets of the same or at least very similar length in most cases. Which is counterintuitive because, as you correctly pointed to, increased velocity equals increased stability for a given twist I.e. what stabilises in...

    Twist rate

    I’ve seen the same rule of thumb but do that for .458” and you end up around 20-22”. As an example: Woodleigh 500gr FMJ is 1.388” Woodleigh 550gr FMJ is 1.521” (.458^2 x 150) / 1.388= 22.7” (.458^2 x 150) / 1.521= 20.7”

    Twist rate

Little barrel twist question. 1:14” is standard for a 458 Win and 1:16” for 460 Weatherby. This makes sense as the 460 is faster so can use a slower twist for a given bullet weight. However standard for the much slower 45-70 is 1:20” or even 1:22”. Why is that? Any reason why a 460 couldn’t be...

Husqvarna also proofed at CIP proof pressure regardless of whether small ring or large ring.

I have, I’m more concerned about things like recoil lug placement and bottom metal fit. How much would you be thinking? I have a Husqvarna 46 Small Ring, HWL also has a 46 but it looks different to mine. It’s not required but it’s more that it’s a function of their success. Most guys run...

That is the same as mine then, yours just looks different in the shroud/cocking piece. I would be very interested in the stock, I’m just concerned it wouldn’t fit. Definitely seconded!

Looks great for plastic. Sadly I think I have a different Husqvarna 46 to you, mine is one of the ones based on a small ring Swedish Mauser.

The old one being the bottom one or the top?

Good to know, sounds like my shot placement should work well with the Speer. Thanks mate. It's good to hear that you think the same as I do regards toughness. The Speer does seem to to be pretty soft, hopefully it'll perform as expected. I have some copper 220gr to try at some point but...

Thanks for the reply. I really like it so far, as you say it has mild recoil and mine is more than accurate enough. That's very interesting as I am going after a roe buck at the weekend. Currently running 270gr Speer at about 2200fps. I have some concerns about expansion (although it is a...

    500 Whisper Dangerous Game?

I agree with your pints and the other posters points. They're points I was already aware of, however that doesn't negate their validity. My counter to that is that the chances of a missfeed or a dropped cartridge are just as likely as with a double. You get the rapid second shot with a double...

    500 Whisper Dangerous Game?

Getting the can isn't the hard bit but weight (and cost) certainly is. The Ase-Utra is readily available but is 2.2kg (4.85lbs). Fortunately I know a guy who builds suppressors, since the Whisper doesn't use anywhere near the amount of powder as the bmg (for which the Ase is designed) he can...

    500 Whisper Dangerous Game?

I think a double will likely be faster for 4 as well. Regardless, it would be a single I would build, disadvantages be damned!
