Certainty Kills the Romance of the African Safari

The best trophies I have are a small blacktail buck from Kodiak and a photo of a buddy and I on a mountain goat hunt in SE Alaska, which was "unsuccessful." I'm going to Africa expecting good game concentrations, well-managed herds, and very likely some shot opportunities in excess of what...

Is this typical of the US?

Well, I'm from Wyoming, and I can't stand these people. Come to think of it, though, I haven't seen anyone for quite some time! HEH! Nebraska actually seems "nicer" to me, with people more likely to socialize. The West is populated by loners, in large part.

    Have YOU Become a Curmudgeon?

Certainly am, though I've lost the desire to correct people on their dumbassery. It never makes a difference. They never listen to sense. I just usually say something like "Well, I never thought of it that way." Telling people how wrong they are has never ended as satisfactory as just...

SOUTH AFRICA: Has Anyone Hunted With Mayogi Safaris?

Have not; I know someone who has been there several times with good experience, but that's all second-hand info.

    Assets Versus Experiences

Assets are important, but can become idols, and even jealous gods. Experiences are your protection against that.

    Cash

First safari has been booked, so I’m thinking logistics. One issue that concerns me: If I’m bringing cash (for tips, for instance,) how do I do that safely? Seems like I might need quite a bit to just carry in a wallet, for instance. And will I need to declare an amount as I enter SA...

    Taxidermy for sale (WA State)

My goodness. Couldn’t apologize more. My experience tells me taxidermy does not resale well, and perhaps my tone was take wrong. Your comments were received. I think, though, that if you question a written reply that could be taken warmly or coolly, you might consider the former and move on...

    Taxidermy for sale (WA State)

If you get those prices, I think I'll start selling some of my own! Unfortunately, from what I've seen, there's very little market for someone else's taxidermy. We might pay >$1000 for a shoulder mount, but it's worth $25 to everyone else.

    Reproduction tusks

So, tell me about reproduction tusks for non-exportable elephant hunts.

    Dip & Pack logisics

Let's say I would like to do a Euro mount ... the skull would be nearly prepped by the time it was "Dipped & Packed," correct? Since I usually do my own Euro mounts, could I have those skulls shipped directly to me? Or do they need to go to a taxidermist for some bureaucratic reason?

Tips for a novice horse rider

I ride a lot and I can remember when it used to be uncomfortable, and I wish I could tell you “why I do” to make it so. Rely on athleticism. Trust your body to adjust and adapt, don’t fight it. Old saying: if your back is sore, your stirrups are too low. If your knees or sore, they’re too...
