I have had super cheap rifles, I have some pretty expensive ones. I will select a howa 1500 and or weatherby vanguard 9 times out of 10. They're super accurate and if it gets banged up, I look at the damage as a character flaw rather than a depreciation on my investment. From .243 win to .375...

And here I thought I was the only 308 win nay sayer. Like the OP, I have little to no ballistic or scientific basis for this perception. I just felt (still feel?!) that if I'm going to shoot a bolt action .30 caliber projectile, the 30-06, 300 wsm, 300 win mag and 300 RUM all do it better.

I've also found the triggers to be pretty stiff on the M77s. A simple spring replacement could also help with accuracy.

.300 wsm ... the .308 on steroids.

2 to 2.5 inch groups off quad sticks at 200m I'm comfortable shooting to 400m with the initial round. Follow up shots (assuming an initial hit) up to 550m. 5 safaris, 37 animals, no losses. I typically use a 300 wsm for plains game.

They had it wrapped up in about 3 hours. About the time it takes me to process a large whitetail. ha ha
