Question For Our German & Austrian Members

As a shooter of doubles - Example my 26 year old Heym 470- hundreds and hundreds of rounds fired. locks up tight like the day it came off the production line. 4 shots into a playing card at 50 yards off a sandbag. Doesn't matter if hot barrels, cold barrels, windy, rain whatever - such a heavy...

Cape Buffalo Hunt-Bring or Rent a rifle?

Well written sir. Couldn’t agree more. A DG rifle is more than a tool. It’s a functioning piece of artwork - something personal / astute and deadly ✅✅

Cape Buffalo Hunt-Bring or Rent a rifle?

If using an outfitters client rifle - not your own - just be prepared for some disappointment. More often than not ammunition is sometimes the dregs left over from other clients whom choose not to take back home after a Hunt with their own rifle, different brands, different projectiles. The...

    Rear Sight windage adjustment

So no - don’t let your gun smith attack with a file.

    Rear Sight windage adjustment

Depends on what ammunition you are using. Different projectiles, different projectile weight, speed and so on all make the projectile act differently exiting the muzzle. For example - my .375 bolt rifles the rear sight is centred just fine using 300 grain Norma oryx. If I use a 250 grain Barnes...

    Thoughts on the CZ550

As I’m in Australia I used the services of ‘safari arms’ gunsmith for most of the metal work and Kudu gunsmith (rear sight). The custom walnut stock was shaped by Ross Waghorne - semi retired now

    Thoughts on the CZ550

A CZ550 Magnum is a bit of a staple guide type rifle, used widely on big game. A solid work horse that needs little refinement - all steel, controlled round feed that in the past was chambered in those lovely African calibres keeping them alive. My own .375HH with upgraded 3 position safety...

Actual calibers used for Buffalo by AH members

Artesian water buffalo of mine taken with a 9.3x74r double rifle. No problems. Using woodleigh Hydros. Through and through. I don’t shoot that many. If you were regularly guiding or something like that a lot of guys use the .404 Jeffery.

    Hello From Australia

I've read AH threads for a long time and thought I'd sign up. A wealth of good information out there. I've been to South Africa this year that was most enjoyable. I'm fortunate enough to regularly (at least 2 weekends per month) hunt deer type species here in Australia. Dan R.
