Difference in Velocities for .308 Barrels

Forgive my ignorance about what I am to ask. Has anyone done any experimenting with factory ammo and the true velocities they get compared to real life velocities? Are there any brands or brand of ammo makers that live up to their published velocities? What about hand loading? Can I expect to...

Difference in Velocities for .308 Barrels

I have owned 2 M77’s in my lifetime, and they both had beautiful wood. The.25-06 I used to have would group like the American rifle. But it was at least 2 or 3 pounds heavier, and after a long day of hunting, I was feeling that heft. Plus, I never wanted to scratch or ding the stock on the M77’s...

Difference in Velocities for .308 Barrels

LOL I know better than to use “Bubba” measurements. I knew someone would ask, and I have the photo proof. Mind you, this is a 25 yd pistol target I repurposed because I didn’t have any other targets at the moment.

Difference in Velocities for .308 Barrels

I own a Ruger American Rifle in .308 Winchester. It has a 22 inch barrel, with a 1-10 twist. My questions are: #1 - Does a 1-10 inch twist give higher velocities than a 1-12 inch twist barrel of comparable length? #2 - What advantages are there of having a 1-10 inch twist barrel for a .308...

9.3 X62 brass and bullet powder recommendation

You’re not wrong. The Partitions are exactly as you describe them. The only bonded bullets Nosler has are the Accubonds. They are a more advanced ballistic tip, in essence.

9.3 X62 brass and bullet powder recommendation

I’m thinking that it isn’t optimal for a case larger than the .45-70 or .444 Marlin. RL-17 works the best in the 9.3x62 with heavier bullets. I’m not sure about CFE 223. It works really well in the ‘06 case and turns the .35 Whelen into a different animal altogether when loaded to the gills.

    9.3x62mm vs. .375 H&H Mag

May I interject here, that this thread has never been, or will it ever be that the 9.3x62 is better than the .375 H&H. With the capability of the new powders, and the efficiency of the case, the 9.3x62, can equal the old, 20th century loads of the .375 H&H, if loaded to 64k psi. Now, to also...

9.3 X62 brass and bullet powder recommendation

You’re quite right about that. The .375 H&H is more of everything than a 9.3x62, definitely. The author of this thread wanted hand loading options for the 9.3x62. I was just trying to show how far up they could go with it, and not bring in the .375 H&H debate. Hawk

9.3 X62 brass and bullet powder recommendation

One can load the 9.3 to 64k psi, if wanted. The only limiting factor in doing so is felt recoil. One can always choose to stay at the normal factory psi, or go up to 60k or 62k psi. The 9.3 can be a different animal if you so decide. The ultimate decision is always up to the person who is hand...

9.3 X62 brass and bullet powder recommendation

Here’s a little excerpt from a Bob Mitchell in Canada. What the .375 H&H will do with a 300gr, the 9.3 x 62 will do from a 286gr, and both have the same SD. But the heavier you go the closer they get! A 300gr from the 9.3 x 62 in a 22.5″ modern rifle will do 2550 fps/ 4331 ft-lbs at 64,000...

@Bob Nelson 35Whelen I will simplify things for you. LOL 9.3x62mm load data at 64k psi, 250 gr Nosler AB bullet Relodr 17 powder, max charge at 68.3 grains, with muzzle velocity of 2757 feet per second. 9.3x62mm load data at 64k psi, 286 gr Nosler PT bullet Relodr 17 powder, max charge at...

9.3 X62 brass and bullet powder recommendation

I’m a proponent for the 9.3x62 myself. With your statement above, boy don’t let the .375 H&H aficionados hear that statement. They’ll definitely get their noses pushed out of joint! LOL But you’re absolutely right about upping the psi to bring it into a more modern era. I have some load data on...
