    Tuffpak 1050 Lock Style

Only trouble I had with mine was in a helicopter. They don’t fit.

Would a 450 grain .458 Win Mag be a perfectly acceptable standard for elephant?

That's impressive penetration. What velocity? Here's a .416 400gr CPS that broke both shoulders on the big bull ele in Oct...Rigby velocities...2350-2400.

Very true Jay...you could substitute within a range of that but if you factor in ammo availability world wide...you probably end up right there.

That's the best quote of the week.

Would a 450 grain .458 Win Mag be a perfectly acceptable standard for elephant?

I've never heard of any bullet doing that. I broke both shoulders on a large bull ele with a .416 Rigby solid late last season...but I didn't get an exit. That's a LOT less than end to end and I think you would be hard pressed to get a lot more penetration than a premium .416 solid gives you.

    .416 Rigby & .458 Lott - Equal Recoil?

More ejecta (powder weight) definitely increases recoil. The calculator includes that variable. With my big bores I try to run loads in the middle of the pack for less recoil but good velocity. A good example of ejecta affecting recoil is in running numbers for black powder loads versus nitro...

    .416 Rigby & .458 Lott - Equal Recoil?

Recoil can be calculated...felt recoil is extremely subjective. I don't think there's much difference in the numbers above but they are offered to show how close the two examples are. Felt recoil would be related to gun fit and stock design and as mentioned, some powders seem to generate more...

I'm glad I didn't see this earlier. Kudos to the buyer and seller both!

    .416 Rigby & .458 Lott - Equal Recoil?

Recoil is somewhat different unless you play with it to make it similar. If you keep the gun weight the same at 10 lbs and run some standard loads, here are the numbers... Here's a typical .416 Rigby load by the numbers... And the 458 Lott at the same gun weight but with a typical Lott...

Ruger Tang safety M77 458 Win Mag

The old Ruger tang safety in .458 was my first big bore. They are slick rifles and I liked mine a lot. I prefer the older tang safety rifles to the newer models. Those barrels are beefy!

    Champlin 458 Lott & Champlin 375 H&H For Sale

I haven't found an early Rigby yet. In the meantime, I have an awesome Dakota .416 Rigby that is accurate and beautiful...not a thing wrong with it, except it's not a Rigby. First world problem for sure and if that never changes, I'm ok with it.

    Scope Setting for Cape Buffalo?

My DG scopes are all 1-6 or 1-8x. All have illuminated reticles that on low power are the same as a red dot. Honestly, I don't need anything else for any of the DG and PG that I hunt. There might be a few exceptions out there...vaal rhebok or mountain nyala...speciality hunts. I've never...

I always wanted a 338/378 Keith grade Champlin…not practical but they are incredible builds.

    Champlin 458 Lott & Champlin 375 H&H For Sale

JJ says it was designed for mag cartridges. There were a few made on 270/280 standard length. One large in 505 Gibbs and two in .222 along with a prototype single shot .222.
