    Who wears shorts on Safari?

Oh & for anyone heading to the Eastern Cape this week they got a ton of rain this week. The river washed out our one road out of camp to Port Elizabeth so we had to improvise. Aka over the abandoned train tracks to a bridge.

    Who wears shorts on Safari?

So I’m heading back to the Eastern Cape next week for my 2nd safari. On my first trip there in 2024 the weather was cool so I only wore shorts 1 day. Looking at the upcoming weather it looks to be in the mid to upper 70’s. My only real concern with shorts other than scratches from thorns are...

    Threat to African Hunting?

If I am not mistaken, during that time there were more cases of Ebola in the USA than in Southern Africa during the same time period.

Massive gator in the backyard today

Not sure if the same applies to gators but I listened to a podcast on African croc hunting and a trick to estimate croc length is: for every inch between the nostrils to eyes = 1 ft of overall length.

    Delta One is absurd

Oh, and BTW, a few months ago, I was able to get an actual human on the phone at United that was in the United States. She basically admitted that they make these flights so that you have to spend a portion of $ and not just miles. These companies just want the dollars: they don’t care about the...

    Delta One is absurd

United are a bunch of thieves as well. I fly a lot for work. 50 flights a year. I cashed in 345,000 miles plus $4000 to fly to RSA next month from Newark. That got me business class going and premium economy on the way back. I booked the flight three months ago. I’ve been checking business...

What surprises first-time hunters most in Africa?

My first safari was 2 years ago and I could not have asked for it to have gone better. The weather, the animals, my PH, the staff, the food, etc. I took 12 animals in 10 days. Lost zero animals. In my eyes, a perfect safari. But…..what surprised me and what I continue to reflect back on: being...

Jim Green Boot Rub Conundrum...help please

Exact same thing with me and Jim Green Razorbacks. I bought them after getting a pair of Rangers that fit perfectly. The Razorbacks: Brutal !! Right one: no issues. Left: horrible rubbing on my heel. I broke them in slowly. Good socks. Good "Sole" inserts. Leather softner. Boot stretcher...

    Kudu Pricing?

Bushbuck jumped 50% since 2025 to $1,500. A bit disappointing.

    Kudu Pricing?

My first safari was in 2024 at an outfitter with self reproducing herds on a continuous 75,000 acres. I will be returning in 2 months. In 2024 the price of a kudu: $1,750. 2025 it bumped up to $2,750 and now in 2026: $3,000. I assume it’s in part of 1) how expensive everything in the world has...

Would you or have you hunted with an outfitter because of a “Hunting Celebrity” or Influencer?

I saw the earlier post that triggered this one. I have enjoyed several videos posted by that particular “celebrity hunter” until he posted one of himself shooting a whitetail doe with a 50 cal. Not sure the point of it.

    Trip/Travel Insurance??

I used www.travelinsured.com for my 2024 trip. I am getting quotes from them for my upcoming May trip to RSA but the rates have gone up significantly since 2024. Not so much to recoup airfare or outfitter $ but for any potential medical reasons.
