    Favorite movies set in Africa

So many good movies mentioned, but I wanted to add: The Flame Trees of Thika 1981 mini series with Hayley Mills Story is set in and around the town of Thika in Kenya's Central Province. The story deals with the lives of British settlers in this part of East Africa in 1913, when the country was...

    Tight chambering brass

Try neck sizing alone and see if it still does it, if it does, it is likely that when the shoulder is being pushed back, it is ever so slightly belling out and expanding the case just under the shoulder. You can measure this to verify. Cause is that the sizing die is a bit oversized below the...

Light, flat & fast...What round should I choose?

My father left me a nice pre-64 Winchester model 70 Westerner in 264 Win Mag, which I'm very happy with. Shoots amazingly flat, bucks the wind like a champ and hits hard. A true 500+ yd rifle that still has the punch to get the job done out at that range.

Ideas Requested: Convert 300 Weatherby Magnum to?

404 Jeffery would be a fine choice for that action.

    On lever's and pump actions

I use a Winchester 1895 in 405 WCF that shoots 350 grainers very well at 2250 fps, and if I need more lever power, I have my Turnbull converted Winchester 1886 in 50-110 that pushes out 525 grainers at 2100 fps.

    Spencer 1865 in 56-50 caliber

Makes me wonder if there are any good stories on African explorers or hunters using the Spencer?

Hornady Brass quality? What is your favorite brass for safari calibers?

Hornady is not sa good quality as it was 10-15 years ago. I think they outsource it now and the quality control has slacked up, along with the brass a bit thinner. It's still good, but just doesn't seem to last as long as their older stuff, say 10-12 firings vs 20+ in 9.3x62, 9.3x74R and 405...

    9.3x62 Ackley Improved

As stated above, the 9.3x62 already has a short neck and not much taper, so little to gain by improving. If you want more, your only real options are to open the chambers up to a larger round like the 9.3x64 or 9.3x66 Sako. The '64 will require the bolt face being opened up and maybe a...

    9.3 wildcat

Almost sounds like you have dreamed up is the .369 Purdey Nitro Express, just a bit longer case. Why not go with the original classic round and take advantage of modern powders and projectiles to enhance the performance.

Any of you stop a charge with a handgun?

The only charge that I stopped with a handgun was a big angry ground squirrel charging on me full tilt with its mouth open. I never expected that! After kicking it away a couple times I finally drew my Ruger Single Six and ended the attack with a single .22 LR Yellow Jacket at about 1 pace away.
