Cant blame you. My Husky had a hairline crack in that area too. I bedded it, epoxied a pilar for the rear screw and put a crossbolt through the wrist. Capped it in buffalo horn. Not ideal, but it saved the stock.
I'm heading out in May as well. Using my CZ 550 in 9.3x62. I'm planning to use 286 gr partitions. My 9.3 isn't picky and pretty much shoots whatever you stuff in it. But partitions are a good compromise, they open well on light game but still give adequate penetration on larger animals...
March-Hog hunt in TX
May- plains game in South Africa
Pending draw results:
TN sandhill crane
Wy pronghorn/fishing trip
AL deer hunts
If I scrub on the draws, maybe great lakes salmon or steelhead or Canada walleye/ pike fishing? Depends on who's interested
Bear from the Canada trip. Hit it quartering to me, broke the shoulder on entrance side and came out the off side ribs behind the shoulder. He had his leg up on the off side, and the bullet shot thru it. It then proceeded to punch through the bait barrel. 286 grain partition @2100 fps out of the...
Yes, I could. The Husky is a trim european stalking rifle. Guessing its over 1 lb lighter than my CZ 550 (top) that was upgraded by AHR. I really like it and use it down here when hunting in the swamps where I dont want to track hogs far. Also a great bear rifle over bait. The 9.3x62 would work too.
You are correct. 1 pass through hornadys sizing die convert 8x57 brass into 9.3x57 brass.
I have both a 9.3x62 and 9.3x57. The husky 146 is lighter and recoil is lighter. Its a great stalking rifle with plenty of knock down power. They are easy to ream to x62, but I have never felt the need...
I drilled/tapped mine and put warne bases on it. That scope is a bushnell european model 1-4 with an illuminated German #4. I put it on it for a bear hunt in Canada. No problem shooting 150 yard with that set up. I used leupold QD rings so it pops off if you want to use the iron sights.
Any of...
I love mine. Since it's on a 98 action, my handloads are pushing 2100 fps with 286 gr bullets. Great for bears, hogs, or deer in thick cover. Anywhere someone would use a 45-70, it shines.
