I took rifles with 3-9 scopes to Africa and never moved them off of 6x or so. I would love to see more of the fixed 6x scope being offered rather than those high magnification versions with knobs to turn to adjust. I never had an animal stand still long enough to fiddle with adjustments before...
I have a Sako Bavarian Model 90 in 6.5x55. I is almost a boring rifle as it seems to shoot anything I put thru it well. Rings were a bit of an issue, but I do like the rifle, especially the single set trigger.
So far I've put about 120 rounds thru it.
My Steyr (recent) is a PH III in .30-06...
I have worked with Darren on my two trips to South Africa and would recommend them to anyone traveling over there. They have the expertise and will reduce the possibility of travel issues.
I took my Ruger African in .275 Rigby in 2024 and took a Springbok, Impala and Golden Wildebeest with it.
Used 160 gr Accubonds and essentially all were one and done. Bullet placement is everything.
When you look at the cost of airline tickets and the safari itself, practice ammo cost is not as relevant.
Reload and the cost drops even more.
I have more faith in my reloads than some of the 'factory' rounds I've shot recently. I also run EVERY round thru my rifle to make sure it chambers...
