Who taught you how to hunt, and when?

My dad. I grew up in the woods. Fishing since before I could remember. Hunting with my dad when I was 4-5 years old. I got my first squirrel when I was 8. I head shot it out of the top of big old northern red oak behind the house. Got my first deer a little button buck with my bow at 8 yards...

Who prioritize fitness for your upcoming and future safaris?

To quote my uncle bob. “Mixing whiskey is a waste of good whiskey” For some reason that quote from my childhood always stuck. I picked up drinking straight liquor in college and never changed. Probably helps that I can’t do beer for health reasons.

Glad I’m not the only one here having to do that stupid pack test. I only have 24 more to go til retirement. And I figure another 24 pairs of boots. Not counting down though or anything got too much career ahead of me still.

Who prioritize fitness for your upcoming and future safaris?

Youve got to find the time. Think about how you really spend your time in a day and I’ll bet you can find 30 minutes you spent doing something less important than exercise. I get up and run at 0430 2-3 days a week. I lift weights at lunch. Luckily I have a job that requires me to be in shape as...

Who prioritize fitness for your upcoming and future safaris?

I just prioritize fitness for hunting in general. We are going to Africa in 59 days (but who’s counting down) and I’ve been working out a fair bit for that and because I have to pack test at work and it’s fire season. And I’m shallow enough to not want to have gut for the summer. I’ve been...

    20,000 Elephants To Germany!

If we include Texas lots of stuff has been imported. I suspect many species including oryx would do very well in the brush country of the Sonoran desert here in AZ. It’s one of those things were we should be doing more to conserve our natural environment but most days that feels like a loosing...

    20,000 Elephants To Germany!

I’m a natural resources manager in my day job. I spend a lot of time talking about invasive species in the U.S. that being said there are days that I think maybe we should just turn loose a bunch of African stuff here in the desert and see what happens.

    The Little Big Buck

You all are getting me even more excited. Limpopo bushbuck are on my list for June. Their reported aggression and beauty landed them on my wish list.

    Age for kids?

I’m taking both mine to RSA in June. They will be 9 and almost 11. They’ve both taken big game animals (they both enjoy hunting and shooting though my daughter is a straight up killer). When deciding whether to take them or not we simply decided that if they took hunter safety and could prove...

Any place to hunt goats in USA

The Nannie’s are excellent table fare. A younger nannie makes excellent goat chops and a roasted quarter is fun at a larger gathering.

    Import to AZ. Best company

Should have just asked @AZDAVE First probably. Could have saved you all from me starting a new thread.

    Import to AZ. Best company

So for those in the SW United States I have a. Somewhat specific question. 4 of us are headed to Limpopo in June for our first safari. Looking at PG. all standard stuff, kudu, Bushbuck, Impala, Wildebeest, etc. only importation issues could come from a baboon or warthog possibly but we are...

Any place to hunt goats in USA

Nope wasn’t talking about aoudad. There’s a pretty fair number of Catalina goats free range. I’ve hunted them near del Rio. It’s pretty fun.

Any place to hunt goats in USA

I’ve hunted goats in Texas several times. Make for good eating. The Nannie’s are best but even a tough old Billy will make good table fare if ground or slow cooked. I enjoy tacos made with a slow cooked backstrap.
