Hunt with 475 Linebaugh and 500 Wyoming

Just a heads-up for .500 Wyoming Express users: ARIA Ballistics Engineering is now supplying ammo for it, with a solid range of bullets available. That said, I have to admit that I've ordered from them today but haven't received anything. I'm assuming they'll deliver and the ammo is of good...

    358 Norma

Good to have a Husqvarna. I have a 1640 in .30-06, a very simple rifle with plain wood and a stock that looks like it was cut from a 1" board. Nevertheless, that rifle comes to the shoulder perfectly. It is also pretty light. I like it a lot.

Disappointed In My New 404 Jeffery

Nice to have the Hornady load available, but I load mine down to about 2200 fps. Hornady is also guilty of trying to make the good old 35 Whelen into a 300 Weatherby, loading a 200 gr bullet up to 2950 or so. If ther's one good load for the 35 Whelen, its either the 225 gr Federal trophy bonded...

Disappointed In My New 404 Jeffery

Sorry about the disappointment, but I think it's a result of wrong expectation. Same weight bullet, same velocity, same rifle weight and stock = same recoil. The .404s reputation as lower recoil option stems from its initial loadings of a 400 gr. bullet at 2100( or so) fps. Modern .404...

    What about a .375 Wby?

....but I think the Weatherby Mk V is a cock-on-opening action, so the rifle will be cocker while you're doing all this back and forth. Not sure it's any safer. Weatherby manuals do caution to unload through the bottom.

    What about a .375 Wby?

I see Elmer Keith there, with the hat.

    What about a .375 Wby?

If you lose your ammo, you can shoot 375 H&H in the 375 Weatherby. The ammo availability issue cuts no mustard.

    What about a .375 Wby?

On Midway USA, I think you can still get two reloading manuals for all the Weatherby cartridges. Of course, they're old. Data likely interchangeable with .375 Ackley Improved.

    What about a .375 Wby?

I've leaned toward the 375 Wby because I can see no down side (I'm a reloader). If you need the extra velocity, you can have it. Nothing says you must load it hotter than the H&H. I also like the 375 Ruger, because it can be had it a shorter, lighter, handier rifle. Nothing wrong with the H&H...

    358 Norma

I've read that the 35 Whelen is the most efficient cartridge. I wonder if what ever drives that also drives the velocities that can be wrung out of it ?

    The .358 Norma

Way back, shrouded in the mists of the past, there was no 300 Win Mag, and a brand new and more or less unknown .338 Win Mag. Norma then released the .308 Norma and the .358 Norma to fill an unoccupied niche. These two cartridges showed good ballistic performance and took up a good deal of my...

    The .358 Norma

I found .358 Norma 250s on Ammo Search with no problem a couple years back....

    340 Weatherby Mag

but, it sneaks in that if a .338 bullet is good, a .358 bullet is better.....apologies in advance...

    340 Weatherby Mag

The 340 was once the preference of polar bear hunters, where long range, bad temper, and large, tough animals are the rule. But polar bear hunting has mostly gone by the wayside. Self-defense = close range, and many lesser or greater cartridges will do. I think mounties are issued a .30-06...

    358 Norma

I have a Weatherby Mark V in 358 Norma, a Safari Custom from the old days. Good cartridge, I wanted one ever since Norma brought it out. I like the 35s.
