    Remington 700

I have owned several Rem 700s. All of the wooden stock ones performed well; only the plastic stock one did not. Have replaced triggers on some, had some glass and pillar bedded. Recently took my .243 Winchester which shot really well right out of the box and put on new barrel 6.5...

    Rifle for Plains game

IMO, a 7mm-08 Remington would be a nice choice. Little more recoil than a .243 but carries more punch. Ammo choices like 140 gr accubond work well. Should be adequate for most plains game. Other bullets include Hornady 139 GMX. In my old age, I have become a recoil wimp and dropped down from...

The Royal Bengal Tiger Which Got A Shikaree Hanged

Thank you, sir, for an incredible story. Never heard of a professional hunter being hung for perceived dereliction of professional duty, in essence. As a "professional" gun writer, the client was also not using good judgment. Quite a story.

    Kudu Rifle

In my old age, I have become a recoil wimp. Took a 7 mm-08 Remington with me to Africa two years ago. Took a nice Kudu, Gemsbok and impala without problem. 140 gr Nosler Accubond. Left my .30-06 home. Kudu: 200 yards, Gemsbok 180 and Impala about 100 .

    6.5x55mm for Plains Game?

I have a few Remington 700s from a 50 year old .222 Remington to an 8 year old .243 Winchester. I must admit that I had the .243 converted to a 6.5 creedmoor--absolutely wonderful rifle. A couple of years ago I took a 7mm-08 Remington to South Africa. No problem with kudu, gemsbok or impala...

Which animal makes the most impressive taxidermy mount?

I am blessed to have both a large elk and nice greater Kudu mounted on my wall. While the elk is great, I think the Kudu is the best of all mounts I have seen.

Cheek Rests—which do you like best?

I have tried Beartooth--a bit bulky, and cumbersome. Having been using "God a Grip" most recently which works well for me.

    Tipping Guide

When the end of my hunt in South Africa came close, I figured out all of the tips etc. However, the PH-Owner of the safari adamantly refused to allow me to distribute any tips. He said if I did that, some of the employees would disappear for several days, celebrating their earnings. The...

    Caldwell Rock shooting rest

The point of purchasing the Caldwell Rock was that the forend stop was designed to maintain same rifle position for each shot. And I learned about removing the rifle sling several years ago. Thanks for the comments. TG

Plains Game rifle choice... Am I crazy???

I personally shoot a 7mm-08 Remington, custom rifle from Hill Country Rifles, for plains game. 140 grain Trophy Nosler Accubonds. No problems to at least 200 yards. Retired my .30-06----getting to be a recoil wimp in my old age. Doc Lightning
