    8 bore bp loads

Can't really help as I want to. That 12" rate of twist just seems outrageously fast to me. The only thing you can do is to test different vel. Black powder charges, using different heights of "fiber" wads to take up space seems the most logical to me. An Arch punch with DonnaConna wall-board...

    Hornady Dangerous Game Series

I was mistaken - just counted = 9 sets of Hornady dies. Never had a problem with any of them, setting them up or whatever. I use a pair of crescent wrenches for locking the collet on the de-cap stem, or simply clamp the stem in the bench vice and one crescent wrench on the die body.

    Hornady Dangerous Game Series

Interesting. I've never heard anything like this before. I really like my Hornady dies. I've 6 or 7 sets of them. Their bullets have always performed for me. I've shot a lot of their .375" bullets and the 500, 300 and 350s in .458 as well as .308", 6.5mm, 7mm, .224, .223 and .172's. Their HMR...

    Would you like a Cigar?

I'm not fussy, I would LOVE a Cohiba right now.

    .300 mag loads

I personally would use the 180's for everything. The vel. is high enough to give enough expansion, even on lighter plains game. (I have no experience in this, but it makes PERFECT sense)(to me)

    Hornady Dangerous Game Series

I've used lots of Hornady bullets on gophers, slightly bigger than you chipmonks(chipmunks?). Nothing but good things to say about Hornady's 40gr. Vmax and SP's in 45gr., both .223's and .224's. Wonderful bullets. I also found the Hornady brass to be very good. Not as good as premium Nosler, but...

I love my new model 70 Alaskan

I'm not interested in "under an inch". Yes bedding of the chamber area is necessary, but pinching the lug, especially on the bottom surface is a VERY BAD IDEA when the gun will be used in different climate conditions. Being bedded in front is also a bad idea for similar "pinching" situations...

I love my new model 70 Alaskan

No, as in ZERO bedding is need directly in front of the recoil lug on ANY rifle, however the rear of the barrel should be supported by close fitting wood, or better yet, glass bedding under the chamber. That mixed with steel powder is best, IMHO. YIKES - noise maker on the front of that rifle.

Welcome to the forum. You are better read than I am. You did miss John Buhmiller, but- that's OK.

    Lever Guns and Plains Game

LOL - Keith noted it was a good "eating" bear, so likely not more than 4 years old. We used to get bears in the car port when we lived in College Heights, but since moving over to the old part of town (20years ago) we've only had bears on the street a few times and only in the fall when they are...

    Lever Guns and Plains Game

My buddy's wife shot a good sized black bear in their garage with her .358 Browning. The bear was eating the dog's food.

One more firearm...or are you done?

I had a #1S in .218Bee calibre for a while & used it on columbia ground squirrels, here in BC. I did the normal accurizing tricks with it. Turning it into a tac driver, 1/4 to 3/8" at 100 meters. After 7,000rounds, it was still shooting bug holes on target, but a friend wanted it do away it...

The Rumors From All Those Years Ago Really Were True

Mics do make measuring more precise, but like calipers, they must be set to zero, or checked before using. I've had calipers that reduce the messurement when pressing on the wheel harder. I no longer use those.

My .458 from 1977. Picture taken in about 1984.

Have to agree with that, but of course, they wanted one better, a few more FPE with the heavier bullet. I had no trouble with my .458 2" heavily compressed loads, but then my ammo was not stored improperly for smokeless propellant. Heat, then damp, etc, not good. Cool and dry. Lots of that in B.C.
