The “Three Days Rule” for outfitters, guides, PH’s

I ran into the same issue. In 2024 I sent emails to 4 Zim outfits- CMS and Mokore responded immediately, another responded about 6 months later, and I've never heard a peep from the fourth. I'll stick with CMS or Mokore for any future hunts in Zimbabwe.

Shoot with one eye open, and one closed, or both open?

One eye closed. I commited to keeping both eyes open for a while, and did alright with a rifle, but I started getting streaks of mystery misses while shooting trap. I found that the non dominant eye would occasionally take over and so I went back to closing one eye for all shooting.

    First time big game hunt

Welcome! I'll also be taking my first African trip in 2026 for elephant (tuskless), and hearing of another person in the same boat makes me feel a little less nuts lol.

    Mark Sullivan the Expose’

I'm a bit late to the thread but when I was a kid I just had to have one of his videos, so when I came across Death by the Ton I picked it up. Found it to be very entertaining at the time, however, the final hunt really soured me on Mr. Sullivan. The client had just arrived in camp and with...

OK Boys, let’s play a little trivia!

OK Boys, let’s play a little trivia!

John Wayne wanted Hudson when James Arness couldn't take the role?

    First dangerous game rifle

I'm very happy with my Winchester model 70 Alaskan .375. At only 7.5 pounds (rather than the 8.5 it's listed as on their website) it can be a little snappy if I haven't shot it in a while, but if I've been practicing with it then it's no problem at all. Also, it's slim enough through the action...

First Trip to Africa, Elephant hunt Advice?

My plans came about in a similar way. I've always had more interest in hunting elephant than anything else (I would even be happy as an observer). After getting a good bit of travel in these last few years and crossing things off her bucket list, my mom was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer...

First Trip to Africa, Elephant hunt Advice?

I just booked a tuskless hunt with CMS for 2026 and they've been great to correspond with; quick and thorough. I reached out to 4 companies- 2 never responded to my emails and the offer from the third wasn't as practical for me as the CMS offer.

    Culling belt vs Cartridge Slides

That's very generous of you! As it happens, I will be using a .375. PM will be incoming.

    Culling belt vs Cartridge Slides

Given that most respondents have a preference for plenty of ammo, and I'd prefer canvas over leather, I'm going to be placing an order for the Trader Keith culling belt next week. I'm going to take @deewayne2003 's advice on the primer sealer for load differentiation.

    Culling belt vs Cartridge Slides

Was there much break-in time involved for cartridge removal? Past difficulties with full leather products for handgun catridges and mazines have steered me toward canvas and elastic, though this likely wouldn't be an issue with all makers (and I see that Murray offers the C-8 with an elastic...

    Culling belt vs Cartridge Slides

I can easily understand, because some of those thick leather belts look damned uncomfortable!

    Culling belt vs Cartridge Slides

All fair points, and they take the 6 round Keith canvas slide off the table. Rigby holds 10, with 3 in the rifle, but that would start to get pretty tight with carrying a few softs as well. I also appreciate the ability to separate bullet types with an empty slot or two on the culling belt and...

    Culling belt vs Cartridge Slides

I had wondered about that benefit of the culling belt, especially since a few softs need to be on hand for the buffalo. I'll also check out the Murray products.
