My first magnum was a Mark V 270 Weatherby Mag with factory McMillen stock. Absolutely fine rifle, very well made, laser like tack driver. Negligible recoil of course. Regret selling it.

Wrote to Westley Richards and learned this gun was No. 1 of a matched pair made for Sir John Heathcoat Amory, Baronet in 1888. He also ordered a third shotgun and a double rifle the same date. This thing handles and shoots beautifully and knowing some of its history is fun.

Only a knowledgeable gunsmith, after looking at the gun could tell you, I'm afraid. The proof marks may be irrelevant if the condition of the gun changed since.

But in the end, the result is deeply disturbing no matter what.

Look into RST low pressure shells for vintage guns.
