Well, I found and purchased a full parts kit for a 1600 action. The receiver is cut but everything else is there including the bolt. Not sure if I will re-barrel or leave it with the original 7mm rem mag barrel.
Thank you for the insight. It's very helpful. The guy I'm learning from is a skilled welder and metal smith. Sounds like one heckuva learning curve for me. These are the type of things that I am excited to learn. I would still like to find an original 1640 guard to take dimensions off of.
Thanks for the link. I need to find trigger guards/magazine assemblies before I go spending money on new safeties. If I cant get the parts I need I may end up selling these receivers
Do you happen to have dimensions/prints for the Husqvarna actions? I'm trying to wrap my head around what needs welding and where the cuts need to be made.
Thank you for the information. I'm on a pretty steep learning curve here. It sounds like sourcing original trigger guards is the best route but not a deal breaker.
On a side note, do you know if the M98 screws to affix the trigger guard/magazine will work or are the threads different?
My first build is going to either be a 27 Nosler or a .270 WSM. I got lucky and won both reamers in a recent auction.
I will probably go with a Timney trigger as the originals were not known for being great. I will post pics of the side of the receiver tomorrow. From what I am seeing, it looks...
At this point, all I have are barreled actions with bolts. Need to source stocks, trigger guards and triggers. I will also be putting on new barrels. I can post pics tomorrow when I get back to the shop. What part of the actions do you want to see?
I could be way off base, but my understanding is the bottom metal is a different shape which complicates stock fitting. Screw spacing is supposed to be the same though.
All of this is quickly becoming a moot point. The trigger guards that I'm missing do not appear to be available anywhere in the US short of buying the whole rifle. Inter Surplus has them but does not ship here.
